After deciding to get my charging system sorted, on the way to my mechanic, my rear shock went pop, and leaked oil which made for some nice smoke, and an expensive trip to the mechanics.
Now money's a bit tight. But at the same time I want the bike safe and up together.
The previous owner fitted a Niton shock.
My bike won't get any work done for a few days.
My question is, should I go for anot her Niton, an original Honda, or a second hand one off Ebay? Or is there another one I should think about.
    P's, 2001 VFR 800fi UK.
Really appreciate any ideas and/oor advise?
Is a second hand one a bad idea?

Check out Jaime Daughtery he builds shocks for VFRs. Let me look for the link.

Here you go. He can build it up just for your weight and riding style, etc. Custom shock for a lot less. http://www.daughertymotorsports.com/

Daugherty is definitely a viable low-cost option. Jamie built a shock for my 1984 (resprung F4i) that worked very well. And he is a straight-shooter.

Assuming you mean Nitron, that's a high quality shock. Unless you have excessively high mileage it shouldn't be blowing out. Nitron is in the UK and all their shocks are serviceable. I'd definitely contact them and see what they have to say. Good luck.

Yeah it's a Nitron. The previous owner put it on and i haven't got the receipt. I'm hoping on Mon/Tue the mechanic will tell me the Shock just needs a small, cheap part. But i'm not hopeful.

You can send the shock to them for a rebuild. Definitely contact them. Nitron is a very good shock.
