Hi all I am looking at a 1998 VF800 with ~23,000miles has a corbin seat and a yoshi exhaust. It looks clean the dealer is asking 3200 but KBB says value is around $2700. So my question is what would be a good price?

Price is a little high, but I've seen dealers ask more. Looks like it's in decent shape. Offer em 2800. Corbin seat isn't a + IMO. Mine is extremely uncomfortable, last time I did a ride forgetting the Airhawk pad, lower back hurt for a week.

Also check the steering stem bearings. Put it up on the center stand & have someone sit on the bike while you move the steering back & forth checking for notchiness or rough movement.

above all check the connectors between the R/R, stator & wiring harness for any signs of heat/melting/burning. I would definitely use any signs of that to reduce the price by at least $300-$500 as the stator &/or regulator will most likely need replacing.

Bike looks amazingly clean, even down to the original side reflectors still mounted and original, unmolested rear fender. I'd guess it was well taken care of, Yoshimura exhaust, Y2K mirrors, Corbin seat, seat cowl. If I was going to get another 5th gen this is about what I'd want. I'd pay $3K for this if it's as nice as the pics show. But definitely check the electrical connectors, left side of the bike under the rear fairing - I'd ask them to take it off so you can get a good look, takes 5 minutes.

After the above, place a voltmeter across the battery terminals to quickly determine if the charging system output is good 100% OK. Or not.

That is a nice example but as the guys have already stated, it's a 3K or less bike and that is if it is in fully operational condition with respect to tires, brakes, electrical etc.

That Corbin seat has an unusual pattern that I haven't seen before. Interesting...

Just to put it in perspective,
I bought this 5th gen (1998 model) back in 2005 for $3600 and it had only 6k on the clock. It had a Micron carbon exhaust and a power commander.

I'd buy that bike at $3200, on the condition that the R/R has been upgraded, valve check has been done, clutch and brake fluid flushed, coolant too.

Definitely, I wouldn't let it go over $200 if I really wanted it. If you're going to keep it for 5 or 10 years the meh, $200 is less than a set of tires.
