Hey guys. My recently acquired 2005 VFR 800 came with a PC3 and in the process of getting the bike up to snuff for the road I decided to check and see what profile was loaded on it. I downloaded the latest power commander software 3.21, and plugged in the mini usb cable all the way until no silver was showing and there was a definitive snap. My computer says that no power commander is connected. I have contacted tech support for power commander and have done everything they said, the green light does come on on the unit but my computer still doesn't find it. I'm thinking that the mini USB port on the PC3 must be bad as I have already tested the cable i'm using and the usb port on my laptop. I am wondering if anyone here has experience with repairing power commanders? If not, how much can I expect to get for a PC3 that can't seem to connect to a computer? Here is a video link to what I do to try to get it to connect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBRhpdSD0H4
Ok, well the power commander people basically told me that there was nothing they could do on their end, and that I would probably have to replace it. Seeing as how I wouldn't want to sell someone a dysfunctional unit, I went ahead and tore the thing apart. The whole thing is encased in some kind of rubber material that I peeled off and then lifted the pcb. Managed to desolder the mini usb port and I just ordered a pack of 5 new ones for like 5$. Hopefully i'm able to fix it here.
what did it say in device manager when you had it pluged in? may just have had to uninstal/reinstall the driver. what version windows?
I tried the 3.21 software on both a windows 8 and windows 7 laptop. I tried to use the driver install program as well on both laptops. Both would not connect.
