That sucks big time. We're getting raked over the coals by insurance companies up here on something we can only ride 6 months of the year.

Same in Ontario. We get it hard. My VFR is $1500, RD350LC is $400, KLX300 is $300 and the Honda dirt bikes are $200 each. Crazy for a 5-6 month season. In the olden times we all rode because it was so cheap, not now. Hopefully the CEO will get his $30 Million bonus! Thats what its all about now...

It's crazy ... I hope some company starts it's own Canada-wide insurance for motorcyclists. Maybe we can catch a break then.

The way they do insurance in MB is that bike claims are not shared with other motor vehicles. Claims are paid only from the bike premiums. The bikes are also classified by how common they are, and how often claims are made against that model.

It's really really dumb. The pool of funds from premiums should be shared by all vehicles on the road.

I used to use State Farm. Best rates I could find for my F4i. I sold the F4i and bought the 06 late fall because the insurance was going to be a lot less. I miss the F4i a lot but was paying about $1200 a year. Also wanted somehing a little better for two up rides. I have quotes from a broker called Erb and Erb for about $800-900 for the VFR but don't have it ensured yet. I had to finish paying out the insurance on the F4i and then try to save on a few months before putting the VFR on the road this spring. I hope that I will learn to love the VFR as much as the F4i. Worry that I may regret buying a 6th Gen over a 5th Gen but the price on the 6th Gen in the fall was too good to pass up.

Yah, we don't have State Farm here in MB. :(

As for the VFR ... I don't think you'll regret it. There are guys who are for / against either 5th and 6th gen. The primary reason most guys don't like the 6th gen is because of the VTEC and the switch away from gear driven cames (no more turbine whine sound).

Personally, I like the VTEC ... I've only taken my current bike (2002) out for it's first rip ever this evening and love it. That said, I've ridden a 2007 extensively in the past that a dealer had on consignment and was trying to sell me. I fell in love with the VFR over it.

Also, touring equipment is far harder to find for 5th gen.

I've driven / heard almost all gens of VFR (except for the 7th and 8th) and the V4 180* Motor (I used to have an 82 Magna V45 as well). They're all awesome bikes with an awesome motor that puts out a heavenly sound.

As BB stated, yes I'm in the insurance business. But while I do handle world-wide exposures, I don't do anything for personal insurance, and nothing in Canada. The rules are a little different up there, eh. Basically, like most insurance guys, I can't help you. lol

I figured as much. US and Canadian insurance is very different and regulated by different governing bodies I think.

I moved from Ontario to New Brunswick last year and my insurance dropped from $650/yr to $225/yr. I received the renewal notice in December and thought there was something way wrong so I called and they confirmed that it was correct. So I finally found something that is cheaper out here! Woo Hoo

That's probably because you only get to ride your bike 1 month out of the year with all the snow you folks get out there ... :p

I agree. Yours is a hell of a lot more. Each state here has it's own rules, regs and pile of bureacrats that administer the programs. Sounds like The Provinces have aboot the same deal going except they are screwing you guys "royally".

Insurers have lobbys just like farkle makers. Insurers are not in it for anybody but them selves and the stockholders. Never make the mistake that they are. Also they rarely tell the truth when questioned. What you get is a version of the truth.

Short story: I moved mostly to Oregon aboot ten years ago. My personal car was a 1995 Nissan Altima. My insurer was GMAC. I had a couple of tickets hanging over me no speeding or DUI ect. I got my bill from GMAC and my bill doubled.. This from a demographic area of a million+ to a fucking burg of aboot 3K. I went to the "local" agent and was told basically I was SOL. A little homework later and I found that GMAC's ticket had been pulled by The Oregon Insurance Comission and the agent fucking well knew it at the time and was going to nail me for all he could.

He is long gone.. No I didn't...but I sure thought aboot it..

So are you guys that talk funny on the other side of the border insured by your robbers on this side of the border? This is premised on much the same deal as driving or riding in Mexico or Baja, CA where it's best to buy interim insurance.

Nowhere else to move ... it isn't much better across the country .... unless you move to the East coast where they get so much snow that it piles up to your eaves .... :)

Washington State does not require motorcycle insurance. I think you have to be Mexican, Somali, Lebanese or Arab to qualify getting into the US. Way too many Canadians here as it is IMO.. Canadians not only talk and dress funny they are hard of hearing. eh?

We have another foot in the forecast for Sunday if you can believe it.
And the roads are so bad you wish you didn't bother when you finally do get an hour to ride!

Then again, it wasn't exactly all joy riding in Wichita either. They have no turns and the wind never stops blowing.

Haha! We're kind of odd like that, right?? :)

    Ouch. :(

I'll be thinking of you tonight when I take my VFR out for another rip. :p

That said, a snowstorm could strike any day between now and May long weekend here in Manitoba. :)

Sucks about your insurance costs up there. Mine costs me about $24 per month.

Look - everything is relative to where you live. Yea, insurance sucks. I pay a shit load in NJ because of my 20 year old son. Never had a ticket or accident, but because he's under the age of 25 and lives in NJ, we get charged. For me and the wifey it was $2100 a year on 4 vehicles. Add in the boy - $6500!

Anyone want to talk about property taxes? Not that I know how they work in Canada, but NJ has some of the worst property taxes in America. I can pay it, or move.

My truck gets shitty gas mileage. Oh well, That's part of owning a big bad ass truck. I ain't selling it just because it costs me $400 a month to gas it up.

Nanny nanny boo boo. Stick your heads in doo doo.

I'd doo that but someone would jump to the conclusion that I was a harleydood. ;)

Just had one of those 20 mph crashes that totaled my gas hog Ford Exploder. Other guy's fault. Had the Ford 2 years+ . Zero problems. Crappy mileage..Cleveland engine.. Other than the mileage issue a great rig. Whoops..one minor problem. Had to replace the OEM radio.. Bought a kit from Walmart. Aboot 150 pesos with new speakers.

Used to "talk" to a guy from NJ on the net ten or so years ago. Same deal. High property taxes and insurance.

Come to Oregon. We have free inbreeding in some places..
