I've got a set that came on my bike with no complaints but I'm going with something else next time.

I have Dunlap on mine now. But they are either to worn or to old to rely on and I am going with Cheng Shin for now and maybe next year I will upgrade them.

As long as they are decent tires and reliable as can be I will be happy. I will have to check the balanceing.

If I can get the money back from excel motorsports I will buy the tires from jamie. In hindsite buying a bike for cheap thinking that tires were going to be easy to change is actually a hard problem that deserves a little more planning.

I just bought a Maxxis V-rated C-6002 front tire, and a Dunlop GT501 rear in the stock sizes. I hope they will be compatable and not make my bike handle wierd.
Does anyone here mount their own tires by hand? I am going to attempt the front this weekend. I have done 100's of dirt bike tires and I am quite good at it, but I have never done a tubeless street bike tire. I am going to try really hard to NOT scratch the wheels.
One thing I noticed was that my Maxxis arrived with 3 or 4 small cardboard blocks spreading the bead apart. That looks like it will help. I wonder why they don't do this for all motorcycle tires. It would help immensly on installing knobbies. I am pretty sure of that.
The 16" diameter of the front wheel looks like it might make things a bit more difficult, though.

I have never changed my tires on anything I own. But some people have and they haven't had any problems that they mentioned. In a low tech way even balancing can be easy.

Anyone know anything about the Dunlop GT501s? Thats the model of tire i was looking at for my bike when the time comes to change them. I thought the current ones on it were no good initially when i had a slight speed wobble just after buying the bike..Turned out in the end it was just under inflated tires because after i inflated the tires to 32 psi..no wobble..

I don't know about those tires but someone should be along in no time to help. I would pick the brain of the shop selling them to see what they say.

Well, I have a brand new 130/80-18 sitting in my garage right now, but it might be a while before I can offer any feedback, though, as we just recieved 10 inches of heavy wet snow over the last couple of days.
It looks nice! The tread is very deep in the center, as opposed to the new Maxxis that I bought for the front.

I've found the GT501's to be the best tire for the stock wheels. They are one of the most expensive too, so it kind of depends on what you are after if they are the right ones for you.

Try running 40psi or so on both ends (I run 42psi). That's better pressure for the street. Low 30's are track pressures.

    Jamie,
I got the tires today and I have them installed it took some doing but I am happy with the results. The rear tire looks huge but I am not use to it yet.

3 cheers for jamie the fellow biker saver.

Sweet! I'm glad they got there so quickly. Dial-up sucks on Youtube, I'll have to check out your video tomorrow at work. I can't wait!

Nobody has said anything about my burnout. I think it was cool (I'm biased). What do you think?

The new tires seem bigger I but I am happy.

Awesome burnout! My wife would kill me if I did that in my driveway.
BTW- I successfully mounted both my front and rear tires by hand. The hardest part is breaking the bead on the old tires. I used a long 2x4 and wedged it under my truck to use as a lever, layed the wheel flat and propped it up on some scrap pieces of wood to keep the wheel and disc off of the ground, and used another small scrap of 2x4 to place near the rim and under the long lever piece. Some muscle, some WD-40, and a large C-clamp "helper" was all it took. My local stealership wanted $40 per tire to mount them.
I placed the paint mark on the new tires (the lightest part of the tire) close to the schrader valve and by a quick static balance observation, they appeared to be quite close, which is probably fine for street speeds.
The new tires mounted up quite easily compared to the tube type knobbies with ultra HD tubes that I am used to mounting on my dirt bikes.

Bumping this up from the dead but im curious about the HI Max tires that Jamie sold you dlman. How are they performing on your bike? Now that i have noticed a nasty crack in the rear Shimoto thats on my VF its time for a replacement and i figured the hi max would be a good replacement for now due to going to F2 wheels during the winter.

This is my first bike and I am not an expert on what a bike needs but I know about a little of what to look for in a tire. I like them alot they are wearing evenly they grip nice (even in the rain). They don't wobble at high speeds either. The only problem I have with them and it isn't even a bid deal in the profile height. The rear seems big from the side.

But it is a 90 when it calls for 80. But the width and rim size is the same. The front tire seems to be backwards because the arrow shapes in the tread point backwards. But I followed the arrow and that is the way it says. They are a great replacement and the cost was reasonable. Also they gripped nicely at speeds over 100 MPH. And on sandy roads they held better that I did. I was going to slow then I needed but this was mountain driving with a river on one side and wall on the other side.
