I'm thinking of buying a low mount exhaust that's made for a 5th gen and mount it on my 08'. It looks like it should work and might need some tweaks, but can't really see why it wouldn't work. If the connecting pipe provided doesn't quite work my buddy has a muffler shop and can make one. I'd like to get a little more v4 noise and loose a good deal of weight, most of which is mounted high on the bike. I have hard luggage so from the side you won't really see any gap where the stock exhaust used to be. Any thoughts.

AFTER REREADING POST I realize I posted in error, I will leave in in case it is of help to anyone :kiwi-fruit:

You can indeed fit a 5th gen exhaust on a 6th gen. I have one on my 02

Note though: you will lose your F.I. fittings, as well as the center-stand stop.

But you will gain a little bit in pipe diameter compared to the 6th gen pipes.

You will find that they are regular steel, not stainless like the 6th gen as well, I had mine coated.

Like I said though it will bolt right up.

Just to clarify, I just want to connect an aftermarket muffler made for a 5th gen to the exsisting 6th gen header, not swap out the whole header. Still good?

The tail cowl on a 6th Gen is GINORMOUS even with an aftermarket undertail exhaust. It would look like a pregnant wasp with a side exhaust IMHO.
