Got Jamie Daugherty building a CBR929 rear shock for me, as well as rebuilding the forks. Has anyone needed to replace worn needle bearings in the shock link when they've removed the shock? Forks are off the bike right now with the front end of the bike suspended from the garage rafters, so I don't want to try to remove the shock until I reinstall the front end.
The bike has 20,000 miles on it. Waddaya think?

Only if there is play in them.
Grab a crowbar or shovell, and place it under the rear wheel.
Force the wheel up and down while you look at the linkages, and check for any play.
My 5th gen has 80,000K's and it has very slight play, might be a job for the future, not that hard to do.
Mind you, we don't get much rain here, and no salt on roads or anything like some of the places in the US.
Our bikes seem to weather a lot better here.

Hi as long as no play i would still strip down the needle rollers check for any damage(rust, grit)
repack with red grease and re install re use the rubber seals if not damaged then you know alls well lubed. You could do this whilst bike is on centre stand.:congratulatory:

I have 90,000km on my VFR now and no detectable play in those bearings. I removed, cleaned and regreased them when I bought the bike at 70,000km, they had plenty of grease then too.
