ECU reflash by Don did help my bike as well. But I'm getting rid of it. I guess I'm a bike whore

    Here is his website: http://www.guhlmotors.com/

He's in the USA and shipping flashed ECU's worldwide.
I'm in Belgium and he flashes ours too.

There are many members here that have shipped their ECU's to Don.

The way it works is simple (for Europe, but probably the same there too, ask customs/carrier to be sure):

1: Take out your ECU and ship it to Don, on the export papers write "temporary export" and description "ECU software update" (well the way it works for Europe) else customs charges duties and taxes again.

2: Ship it with a paper in there with your name, address, email and phone-number, and use tracking.

3: Watch tracking until the package is delivered to Don.

4: Then call him and discuss the options you want as well as the payment, do not call before as he will tell you to ship it first.

5: After that (same day) he will charge your creditcard and ship it back with tracking.

6: 2 to 3 days later you receive your ECU and you can install it and enjoy a new bike :love-struck:

Last time I spoke to Don he didn't ship via dealers, that was a few weeks ago.

Take the 1200cc motor, make it 1000cc and 200hp in a Honda sportbike and you have magic. How long do we have to wait?!!

The BMW is very nice but as soon as you spend the money required to get it where it should be (most expensive is the suspension to make it handle well) and you start adding up their bags, wheels, pipe, nav, ect it is well over 20k. No thanks. I have always like FJ's though.

I'll just keep my 800. I was at the Miami International show and there was no 1200 there either, just 1 800. I do like the front mounted radiator.

A friend of mine went to the motor-show in Holland and the VFR1200 wasn't on display there either.

    Looks like it disappeared everywhere.

The only bike they had at the Cleveland MC show was the new VFR. No VFR1200. I would think if Honda redid the body with better looks and at least a 6 gallon tank the bike would sell real fast. It would be a Grand touring Sport machine with power. Or bump the VFR to at least a 1000cc's.

They need to fix the crank angle if they want to keep that engine... as it is, it sounds sooooo boring (imo), even with exhausts, decats, etc... a 1200cc V4 should sound more like the RC213V, and less like a 300cc quad.

My R1 still gives me goosebumps when I start and/or rev it, with the VFR, it's hard to tell it's even running :p

Yup, a buddy of mine had a Magna, I remember it sounding pretty awesome, and that was back before aftermarket exhausts really caught on.

Time for the 800 to go too. That bloated crankcase has been around for way too long now. A proper 1000 available in supersport and adventure/touring trim please. Drop the VTEC nonsense, unicam it up. Power valve if you want to.

To me they just look awkward on the bike. The Concours and FJR look much better. They even look better on the VFR800. I'm not knocking the 1200. I just think that Honda ran out of money or time when they designed the rear end of that bike. I think the front and middle sections are gorgeous, but the rear just does not go with the rest of the bike.

Can you post pictures? I did find a company that sells an unpainted seat cowl that actually looks pretty good. Those two items alone would really clean things up in the back IMO. If I were to buy one, that is where I'd put my money.

The next time I channel Honda-San, I will send him this thread.

    6. Hidden pannier attachment
“See above – why does it need ugly frames and fixings. Panniers should tightly hug the rear wheel and match the lines of the bike not look like cheap suitcases.

    The suitcases ain't cheap!

The designer dude probably got censored for naughty words when he got round to talking aboot top boxes.

This quote and the one that Billy posted is where my thinking is at:

"What’s it for? It’s not sporty-looking or pretty enough to engage the original VFR-buying crowd."

My dealer has a 2012 in blue which I think looks fantastic (from the mid-section to the front) that I was considering buying last fall. They also had a 2014 VFR800 in white which I too thought looked fantastic. At the end of the day, I decided to go back to a 2007 RWB 6th Gen which I had owned for the previous 7 years. I'm not saying that I'll never buy one, I'm just not there. I want to see a NICE fender eliminator and a rear seat cowl option that looks as good as the one in the photo.

    Nice read. Thanks for posting.
