To put a bow on what everyone has been saying about the charging system being a "system" after replacing my R/R and getting good readings I took the bike for a good long ride today. After about 60 miles or so the bike began to exhibit similar symptoms to what I reported before. When this started I turned around and headed for home. Ran some of the same tests I ran before. The charging system was once again undercharging the battery. This was more than a little frustrating and I decided to just pull the stator cover off and take a look at the stator.

I will post a picture when I get the chance, but it looks just as you would expect. Everything all burnt up except in the 7-8 o'clock position. So there is now a stator, gasket and some Ox-gard on order. I also bought a new battery because, this is fucking frustrating.

I can't say I am too excited to be introduced, though I am learning quite a lot about my bike.

None of us were. But the good news is aside from these electrical issues - which you will have sorted out shortly - the rest of the bike is damn solid. All this BS will soon be a memory as you gobble up some miles.

I am not too worried about it. This is just the first issue I have ever had with a Honda motorcycle in over 20 years of riding. I will get it fixed and hopefully it will all last another 50k miles. That will get me nicely to 100k.

I am happy to report that as of last night my bike is all up and running.

I installed the stator on Wends. night only to watch in horror as smoke poured out from under my seat. Popped my seat off to find that the short 30 amp fuse wire was brown and burnt. I ran down to the hardware store, bought myself some 10 and 12 gauge wire, a waterproof 30 amp fuse holder and some shrink wrap. I then cut out the connecter and old fuse holder and rewired and soldered on the new connector. Fired up the bike and my readings are awesome. 13.9 at idle and a steady 14.5 at 5k and it dips to 14.2 with the brights on.

This winter I think I am going to order and install the VFRness for peace of mind.

Tonight when I get home I am going to install my mini voltmeter, change my oil and put the bike all back together and then I am going to go and RIDE.

Thanks for all the help, I could not have done this without you all.

Some of that clutch "feel" can be alleviated with a more adjustable lever. Most of it is just getting used to it.

There is a big difference in what a system does all the time to what a system does sometimes. Case in point when ya hear bitches about the some BMWs jacking up in the corners. This mostly from dudes that read it somewhere and have never ridden a BMW. This even carrying over to the Honda 1200's doing the same thing even before the bike was available.

Here is a pic of the bike, my son and myself. This was my son's first ride on a motorcycle and I think I created a rider for life. He tells me it is his favorite way to travel now and makes excuses to ride.

I am getting used to the clutch now. I quite like it.

It really sounds like you need to run a couple tanks of fuel injector cleaner and check your air filter. I know 6th gen vfrs are know for needing a power commander for those low throttle issues as well. I had a fireblade and it was certainly smooth but keep in mind they are two waaaaaay different animals. If it weren't for the horribly uncomfortable seat and cam chain I would get one again.
