Hello all! New member to this site. I am refurbishing an original 84 VF700F. I have a chance to buy a 86/87 VFR750 Rothmans. Looks to be original and correct, white with navy but NO red or gold striping. Has authentic logos and sponsor. Can't find anything like it in the states. Found a photo of one similar in Denmark. Is this something rare? Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks much. I've attached the following picture to help. Hope it worked. 00Q0Q_cIcKu4TI5AY_600x450[1].jpg

Ask for some paperwork or proof of some kind. Looks like my bike with Rothman's decals and CBR wheels.

Looks like a custom painted 86/87 VFR with CBR600F2 wheels to me. Pretty certain it didn't look like this when it left the Honda factory.

I would be careful riding a bike around with tobbaco livery on it, it's probably illegal these days.

    Too Shay!

Thanks much for the insight. Suspected it was either too good to be true or really something special. If it's still for sale, it's pretty cheap---I'm out nothing more than what the exhaust and bodywork is worth. Say, has anyone considered transplanting the VFR engine into the "old" frame? I know every successive Interceptor was "better" than the previous, but my favorite looks were the first years produced. But as we all know, the engines were not fully developed, optimized or ideally suited. Suggestions? Thanks

I wonder if the Chinese will produce a painted up fairing for bikes since pot is now legal in three states. Harley may beat them to it..

They already have all kinds of heads to go by. This could be one more.

Nah dude, this is a 2nd generation model with gear driven cams. The motors in these bikes are pretty close to indestructible. As long as it isn't too far gone and you maintain it properly, it will last a long time.

Yeah, the 2nd gens are good engines, but I love the looks of the 1st gens best. How impossible would it be to transplant one? I have a parter 86 in the garage. I may take a look at it once it warms up. OR, put 1st gen bodywork on the 86 frame. So, 40K isn't an issue on 2ndgens if maintained so-so? I'm actually a TWIN kind of guy (Ascot VT500, Hawk GT, RC51, etc) but the v-4s have always been something else. Got a '85 V65 Sabre on the docket to be restored. Blue and charcoal is my favorite factory colors for it. Ciao

It's been done but there are some frame clearance issues to overcome. You'll have to shave the sides of the rear bank valve cover and modify some mounting tabs, among other things I'm sure. There are some pics of one somewhere around here.

I remember reading somewhere that you can't remove the rear valve cover without dropping the engine in a 2nd gen engine swap.
