I'll be looking for a new set of skins for my '83 pretty soon, what would be the widest allowable tire size be for the front and rear?

    On the bike right now are;

    F 100x90x16
    R 130x90x18

    Thanks.

Leave the front alone. A wider tire will make it handle worse.

The rear tire, you can go to a 140 width. A 150 will "round" the tire too much and give you a smaller contact patch.

Go with radials if you can find them. Don't remember, but I think I have Avon Venoms on mine.

When you say a 140 width, what profile would you recommend?

Stock profile would work fine. If you want a sportier look, go with a lower profile. A lower profile will give you a little harder ride.

Personally, I've never gone lower than stock, but have heard of people going to 80 with no problems.

The problem your going to have is finding any radial tires at all. Most Mfg's don't carry our sizes anymore. I just did a search for Avon radials and came up with these . . .

    Front:
    Avon Super Venom 100/90x16

    Rear:
    Avon Venom 150/70x18
    Avon Super Venom 140/70x18 & 130/80x18

    Some Mfg's:
    Bridgestone
    Dunlop
    Michelin
    Pirelli
    Metzeler

Thanks, I was looking at the Super Venoms, but I wasn't too sure of the fitment on the rear.

    Thanks again.

I've got an 83 VF750F and put on a set of Avon Azaros

    FANTASTIC TIRES!!!

Had to swap out the rear rim for a 17" from an VF1000 but REALLY worth it!!
    Currently running a 140 - 17" in the rear

Really improved the handling of the bike!

    Two Thumbs up!

Took a good look at my tires recently and the PO put a 160 on the rear. Because of the "rounding" affect, I'm only using about the middle 3rd of the tire when upright. It could even be a smaller contact patch than a stock sized tire.

I DO NOT recommend going with 160!

As soon as I can wear this one out, I plan to go with a 150 . . . if I can find one
