I do not give up that easily. The Isle of Man it is then. Gordon

    Correction to my previous post.

"Geoff Johnson won the 1985 Production TT on a VF1000F Bol D'Or - the touring oriented version with an 18" front wheel and less radical geometry. "

Don't be put off by the dire warnings and nay-sayers. In one of my early posts on one of the VFR websites I asked whether anyone had rebuilt the gear drive cassettes from a VF1000R. Only to be told I was out of my depth and obviously should not attempt it.
After successfully rebuilding a couple back to new condition the somewhat opinionated poster never made another comment.
    Good luck and have fun.

Yep, that's true. It was Geoff Johnson, he won the '85 TT 751-1500cc Production class. I'll bet that F was a wee bit stronger than the showroom item after being prepped for the TT.

Ironic that the F ended up being a better racer than the R did. Both were certainly on the heavy side for sport bikes, but that is one of the things that makes them a pretty livable road machine. I haven't had the opportunity to own one myself but that's what I've heard. Hard-core homologated racing machines look like a literal PITA to ride frequently.

Not to expand anyone's helmet size, but I must say that this forum is one of the most humane gathering of people that I have come across. You can take a whiner through the realities of what they whine on about to the point where either a glimmer of light is seen or a super nova occurs. It is both serious and funny and I for one, appreciate it. Now you can tear me apart for such drivel. Gordon....Oh yes, pictures will be coming but the former owner just got out of hospital.

    My helmet is already massive.

And while you will get plenty of help and responses here, some good and some bad, expect the thread to deviate from the original subject. Just like burned out R/R's on a VFR, all threads go off topic. Fact.

Thank you Pliskin: I appreciate all the various angles that this thread is taking, from actual hands on, to 'grow up,' to the Isle of Man....it is what makes this whole endeavour interesting and I thank all involved for letting me take part. Gordon

Given your latitude, Gordy, how often would you be riding it, certainly not more than 6 months/ year ?? Hockey the other months, eh ?

So even if it doesn't run and you can't find parts and it just sits there in yer mum's shed or your fancy living room, you can always admire your beautiful machine, waxing and polishing with reverence while sippin on down.
    :drinker:

And you're thinking that this bike is so especially amazing both looks and performance.amazing that it belongs in a museum; i've been there, Bunky ! Both VF and VFRs are included in the Barbor collection and museum; therefore you must preserve all your old boxed-up VF slappers whatsoever.
