I have an 06 VFR ABS with about 1000 miles on it. Recently noticed that the bike is "stuttering?" slightly under 5500 rpm. Much more noticable the lower the rpm. Example: As a ride in 4th about 50mph and 5k RPM the RPM stays constant but it feels like the engine is doing a slight lagging/stuttering type of thing. If I give some gas I don't notice it as the rpms increase but again seems to return as the rpms come down. You would almost expect the rpm gauge to by fluttering a little with what I'm feeling the bike do, but it just stays normal. I thought I read something about this in the forums in regards to the catalytic converter but now can't find the posts. Any ideas?? I just had the 600 mile service done at exactly 601 miles about 3 weeks ago and everything was fine. Didn't really notice it then.

Alrighty. I called the local Honda service shop and they said that might be normal for a vtech. Said the VFR is very picky about some RPM ranges, especially lower ranges under 6k and not to worry until the bike is completely broken in after 2500 miles unless it's getting noticeably worse. Also said you might see that with some custom exhuasts if the bike isn't "tuned" appropriately. That brings me to my next question. What should my first mod be? I would think either Staintunes exhaust or PowerCommander but the whole powercomander programming mumbo jumbo seems a little complicated for someone such as myself whose not very mechanically inclined.

It kind of sounds like you are experiancing the flat spot. The 06 is California 2008 emissions compliant. So around 4.5K RPM's it leans it out to get better gas mileage and fewer emissions. I found it very annoying on my 06 as well. It felt like it was running out of gas.

I bought the power commander and it completely removed it. I've read that just using the O2 sensor bypasses help with the flat spot, I can't comment on that though since I went right to the sensors and the PCIII.

after getting rid of the stock exhaust it did make a difference on my bike seemed to elimanate that lower rpm problam you are experiencing,(staintunes baffels out) also do a pair valve block that makes a difference as well basically emmision crap to cleanup the exhaust if you do a seach on this site you should find lots of comments about pair valve dosent cost any thing and is totally reversible worth a try

Mine Does EXACTLY the same Sir . Through a certain smalll part of the rev range , it feels like the Bike is cutting out from a lack of fuel .
Perfectly Normal , part of the Design .Gives us sometrhing to try and work OUT of the bike , pitting a $3000 budget to fix said problems against a $400 000 000 fault the designers actually put IN there .

Do you have a custom map or one provided by Dynojet?

I'm using a factory map for stock pipes and stock air filter.
