    Thank you so much.
Easy installation is the part I really like about this horn.
How loud is it? Like the stock multiplied by 2 or 3? Or?

Okay I'll bite. I am very interested in a new horn and ditching the road runner beep beep. Considering the hella, a Mercedes, wolo or stebel but have questions. My Hella horns on my 74 Ghia are loud but I have 2 and a relay. But I can't locate the relay on the 2014 VFR; is there one?

Has anyone installed both hi and low tones. If not, what tone did you install?

Now, if you installed the wolo or stebel did you install a relay?

I have watched the screaming banshee video, seemed simple but haven't voted it out yet

    Thanks

I cut and pasted the sellers name and did the advanced search on Ebay. I did a "best offer" and the doode accepted it real fast, charged me sales tax because he is in sunny South FL ironically. Got the horn in the mail fast, came in a Hella yellow box, opened it and found a large new "Made in Germany" horn. May mount in on the viffer or the other commuter, EX500. Looks good though, well worth the 10 dollar gamble. Funny side bar; if you went to Germany you would spend double the price for that unit.

    .

    I've just fitted these.

They're soooo cheap but have a very loud, two-tone, expensive sounding note. Had a set on my BMW for two years and they worked well. Just got to wire 'em up. Couldn't find anywhere else to hang 'em so stuck 'em behind the license plate. Be interesting to hear what they sound like in this position tucked in back of my self-modified tail-tidy.

    ***Update***

I got the horn in the mail today, just as described in a yellow Hella Box. I tried to do this the right way and totally removed the old horn and bracket, attached the new horn to the existing horn plate and attempted to re-install the bracket....that is when the battle began. Word of advise: don't remove the entire bracket, just the nut on the back of the old horn. I like to never got the bracket to line back up and think I cross-threaded both mounting bolts. It snugged down, but it's not the way I like doing things. I noticed after mounting was complete that the horn "wobbled" at the slightest touch, so I snugged it down with two longer zip-ties.

For anyone that's thinking about doing this $11 upgrade, it's 100% worth it. Even though I had a few issues I'd do it again in a heartbeat. That sucker is a lot louder than stock.

Thanks Ictghost.... took your advice on my 5th gen.... unmounted oem crappy horn from its center nut (21mm nut) and removed 2" bracket (12mm bolt).... connected new horn's wires and bolted it's horn bracket with bike's original 12mm bolt.

Wow big difference, and you're right - IT'S FREAKIN LOUD... well worth $10 investment for made in Germany Hella quality!

    Stock 5th Gen VFR horn - 1.84A

    Hella 335Hz horn - 4.5A

The horn circuit is on the same circuit as the stop lights and the turn signals on the 5th Gen. The stoplights pull 3.41A.

Stoplights + Stock Horn (likely usage scenario) = 5.07A

    Stoplights + Hella Horn = 7.60 A

Add in the turn signals, which are a little harder to measure current because of the cycling and you have:

    Stoplights + Turn signals + Stock horn = 9.55A

    Stoplights + Turn signals + Hella Horn = 11.41A

All of this on a 10A fuse. These were all measured at around 13V, so running will change the values a bit.

Common wiring logic says loads should be fused 125% greater than what they draw, so I would expect not to see over 8A for the factory horn, stoplights, and turn signals, not the 9.55A I saw.

With the combo of Hella horn, the stoplights, and the turn signals, a desireable fuse rating would be ~14.2A.

What if you used a typical bosch style relay?

I'm running mine through a relay that is actuated by the horn button, and power is supplied through my Blue Sea fuse box. All with 12 gauge wire.
