    Hello VFR World,

New member as of January 2015 because I have a 1985 VF1000RF that I bought from a UK breakers yard last year and have spent the last 12 months cleaning, finding parts, more cleaning, tinkering and eventually getting to the point where it has passed it's MOT and UK registration so thought it a good time to post.
Bike is a Californian import with 9k on the clock but was incomplete and very dirty (including classic rodent nest in the air box) so took a bit of effort to make good. I have changed switches, lights etc to European spec and the usual mods like new brake lines etc. Also changed to a flat fan and stick coils to help improve (maybe?) air flow over the engine. Have really enjoyed the refurb but now waiting for decent weather for a good blast. At the moment in Hampshire UK we have hurricane force winds and torrential rain passing through almost daily!
Couple of pics attached and all comments (good and bad) welcome.
I really like the 1984 fairing with the smaller cut-outs so would like to change to this (I have an 84 fairing and support frame already). I can see there may be a heat problem in summer but since the UK temperature rarely gets above chilly it may be a safe mod. Opinions very welcome.
Cheers and looking forward to some good riding weather for all.

Nice job. I had a near perfect 1986 VF1000R up until 2 years ago when I sold the lot. When I acquired the bike, it too had a rodent nest in the airbox. Post back to let us know how your first ride goes and what your impressions were.

Thanks to all for the welcome and kind words.
Duccman, the left hand picture is as it was collected from the junk yard. The tank and seat were 'loosely' assembled and two mirrors jammed into the gas cap hole. Big missing parts were fairing, seat hump, battery, side screens and what seemed like dozens of small bits and pieces.
Had a short ride to the MOT station (and a longer one coming back!), first impressions were very good. Obviously a bit heavy at low speed but felt real good when rolling.

Thought that was just you disassembling it. Looks great. Did the weather ever get any better?

Nice looking bike. You did a good job on it. Good to see some of the older bikes coming back on the road and that one is a classic. Enjoy
