I have a 2003 vfr800 vtec and Im only getting 115 miles from a full tank of fuel before it hits reserve ! I have read they can easily manage between 140-180 miles from a full tank. Does anyone have any idea whats going on with my bike ?

It could be a number of things but I would run some fuel injector cleaner through a couple of tanks of gas and clean/check air filter and spark plugs. Also check your tire pressure, I noticed a mileage drop when my air pressures were lower than the recommended 36/42 (f/r).

You might want to also give some more data about your bike, how many miles, service history, etc.

    Cheers

Hi OOTV, thanks for the first couple of tips :)

Ok my bike has covered around 13800 miles and it was last serviced at about 10500 miles.

I have noticed the bike is running fairly cool, after a 25 minute commute to work at speeds averaging around 85mph the bike's temperature was only around 62-65 degrees celsius. I have read that a knackered thermostat can increase fuel consumption but it is cold weather at the moment but whether this would effect it I do not know.

Yep, a knackered thermostat can affect fuel consumption. The bitch about the thermostat is that it can be a little bit of a chore to reach so even if it's not the thermostat, you might as well just replace it since you have to remove it to check it and you everything apart anyway. At least that's my take on it. You could try and replace the radiator cap as sometimes that can cause similar issues and it's much easier to get to and replace. BTW, do you have a copy of the Honda Service Manual? If not, I can send you a link to the copy I have in my dropbox folder, it's too large to email. It'll definitely help if you want to DIY.
