Hey folks, just wanted to chime in here. I am working on an 87 VFR700F2. It was parked for some 20 years. I have been busy cleaning the carbs and trying to source what I need to get them back up and healthy. The tar that was left in the float bowls was amazing to see. Needless to say, the bowl gaskets were rock hard and fairly brittle.
I ended up here at this thread while trying to find some affordable gaskets. I wanted to thank the VFR community that has continued to feed information into this site. I searched ebay etc., but using VFR700 as part of the search title gave me fairly expensive results. I noticed the dimensions posted above for an o-ring gasket and started searching using that information. It still takes some digging to find a reasonable source for the o-rings.
I ended up at this site http://www.theoringstore.com/ . I punched in the dimensions and found these http://www.theoringstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=367_5_10&products_id=356 .
The odds are good, over time, these links may not work. I ended up buying Viton 90 Black O-rings 041 3" ID X 3-1/8" OD X 1/16 W. The total bill for 8 of them shipped to my door in two days flat was just shy of $15.
I ran to the garage and just had to try and fit one on a float bowl, Dang, they fit great. I have not put the carbs together as of yet, so I do not know exactly how well they will work when fuel is trying to escape. I will update when they have been put to the test.
    Thanks again for the information.

You cant get pre shaped from hydraulic shop though.
Yes they're expensive, but if you need them, or dont have the repair shop nearby....

Man, just get the circular O-ring Viton. That is ridiculous to pay that price each when you can just get an o-ring that will work just as well for less than a buck.

Wanted to comment on that for posterity.

When rebuilding my brother-in-law's carbs I changed these gaskets just in case as they were flat and stitting just a smidgen above the float bowl surface. Took the above advice and bought some 75mm ID o-rings but either the dimension quoted refers to OD or my '86 bowls are somewhat different. Ended up getting 72×2 (72mm ID, 2mm thickness) and they fit perfectly.

So you had to get a slightly smaller o-ring? What model 86 bike was this, a VFR750? I've noticed that when these o-rings get wet with fuel they expand slightly. Did you maybe get the 75mm wet with fuel first then try to install them?
I'm pretty sure a 72mm would fit if I soaked them in fuel first.
Other than that, I'm surprised that the 75mm ID did not fit your bike.

" or my '86 bowls are somewhat different."

All but impossible your float bowls are different from stock OEM.

It's a VF500F Interceptor, theoretically an 85 but the engine is definitely MY1986. No, did not get the 75mm wet with fuel, and neither did I soak the 72s before fitting them in. (Which was a bit of pain and fiddling but that's another story!)

EDIT: Just noticed this is a VFR subforum and not VF! I was misled by the fact that I came across this thread when looking for gasket alternatives for our VF500, and did not pay attention to subforums in search results... Apologies and hopefully this will help someone who - as myself - gets to this thread looking for VF500 gaskets.

Great Thread-Thanks JasonWW for the o-ring dimensions. Rode over to Hydraulic Power Sales in Rancho Cordova, Ca. and the guys handed 4 of them over at no charge! Now that is a good price. Thanks Guys in Rancho!
