If you have a chance to take a few detail photos of this control it would be a help in checking if this is also a 'plug and play' for the VF500F. Thx!

You should be able to verify the fit of the right hand control by comparing the VFR800 you have to the VFR750 ('91) shown above.

Actually, if you have a chance to take a few photos please post here for reference.

    Thx!

I have both hand controls handy and I can post photos if anyone still interested, BUT European version start button IS NOT a double switch as US version.
EU is just a N.O. contact for the starter while US has also a N.C. contact for headlight as I have noticed from reported problems and photos. US version is lousy construction while the EU version is bulletproof.

Thanks, but I'm guessing there'd be a big difference between your 93 and my 84 in looks.

Looks like the starter button has failed me again. Smoked another one last week (button failed, smoke rolled out from behind it, no longer works/starts the bike.)

Ebay is awash with the left hand switch pods, just like the last time this happened to me. Long shot I know, but: anyone here got a spare right hand switch OEM pod? Again, all I really think I need is the button itself, so if yours is apart/junk but the button looks good we may be in bid-ness.

And I know other models will work and I can swap out the entire pod(s), but I'd like to keep this OEM if I can. Thanks.

These starter buttons like the one in my 86 750 had known design flaws that only get worse with time.
Save yourself time and frustration and go to a newer design. You are hitting the point of diminishing returns by trying to stay with that year switch.

It's official. I'm stuck. There has only been ONE right hand switch pod on ebay since I wrote this. Bought it. Just got it. And it's in worse shape than mine. Yay. So it's going back.

If anyone has one or has a line on one, I'm listening....

Also...those of you that say you used one from another year model, AND it was a direct plug & play with no wiring mods, etc, can you tell me again which model that was? I've heard/read that F2 pods are a good swap, but I think I also read they require some wiring mods. Someone suggested a 900RR...are they a plug & play swap with no mods? I hate to go the non-OEM route, but if I have to I'd prefer a direct, easy, no-wiring-mod swap if possible. Thanks.

I have a button that has been repaired, I'm sure it will work. Yours for the postage.

Yeah? Tell me more about the repair? You have the whole switch and innerds, or just the button? Looks like I need a few other things: the spring, the metal bump plate as well (both of mine melted into the blob.)

But yes, I'm interested. Where are you? My next idea was something like this maybe...a switch off a Magna looks similar. Push button start instead of the ill-designed rocker button with the flimsy pegs.

Hello Sorry we took a look around and we are unable to find anyone who has that discontinued switch .. good luck in your search.

This is the response I got from parts service Honda looking for your starter switch. Looks like you may have found one

Here's photos of what I have Greg. The button was repaired by drilling through the axis of the button and a stiff wire inserted. I put a couple of blobs of plastic cement on the cracked area. You are welcome to the whole shebang if you want it, NC, just pay the postage.

Duccmann: Thanks so much for helping with the search on my behalf. Really appreciate that.

Creaky: Looks like you had the same issue. This is my 2nd switch fail. If you think it'll handle the strenuous rigors of actually doing what it was designed to do, I'm in. Sending a PM now...

That's a good redesign mod/idea to do BEFORE the pegs break. Once the pegs are gone (like on mine) it's kinda too late, I suppose.

Looks like this is a common issue? I don't remember having these things fail back in the 80's/90's when the bikes were still around. It'd be nice to go ahead and get a few made with a 3D printer maybe since Honda didn't sell just the switch itself.

The design was marginally okay as long as the plastic retains it's strength. The problem is this type of plastic becomes brittle over time and the design eventually leads to shear failures on the pivot pins.
I think I used a 5th generation switch on my one bike and never looked back.
