so i have recently purchased a 750 vfr last season and i cannot figure out why my fuel gauge isnt working. i tested the float and it reads the correct resistances. the bike has 70k miles on it and when i first got it the gauge would work sometimes but not all the time but it has just completely stopped now

Disconnect the plugs going to the instrument wiring and look for bad connections colored green or white, then spray with contact cleaner. It's more likely to be a wiring problem than a gauge failure.

okay i didnt get to that part yet its rough getting time around this time of season to work on my bike. but does the vfr have any history of the instrument cluster itsself failing?

If the testing procedure is similar to the temp gauge, you can test the fuel gauge by very briefly grounding the wire lead going to the tank sensor (key on); gauge should go full scale if wiring and gauge are OK.

I have a spare '94-'97 temp/fuel gauge set if needed.

e-mail at krazykarguy at hotmail.com if interested.
