Check oot some of the vids on flat tracking and if they still have Speedway racing in Ventura try to catch one. Look up what is going on first.

One of the great things about flat tracking is that it's a form of racing the still has the "hot rod" spirit attached. Moto-GP is great but those bikes are pure racebikes. Another factor is that in dirt track even on a "mile" you can see the whole race.

Way back even in the teens of the last century motorcycles have been racing on fairground horse tracks. In and around LA in that era there were board tracks as large as 2.5 miles in diameter. Some of the bikes were powered by V twins and were essentially heavy duty bicycles with big ass engines and no brakes.

Big cojones on fast guys ain't nothing new.

    What Kenny said:

With an honest 100 horsepower at the rear wheel there was no question the thing would be fast-on the straights anyways. But all that four cylinder, two stroke road-racing type power came in a big rush, and it was going to be difficult for the rear tire to hook up. The bike was relatively light, which only made the traction problem worse.
    ****************

Man 100hp back then was a hellava lot, kind of like the newer bikes with 200hp today. When I raced at Nelsons years back, there was a guy named John Samways that raced one. The only one at Nelsons I ever saw, and the guy was fast on it and had the track mc record. I still can remember the sound of that bike. Just killer!!

In the early 80s I used to ride with the owner of the BMW shop I worked for, several employees and a few friends of the shop. One year we were trying to decide where to go and Rex said "lets go to Springfield for the mile." Why not? I had never been to a mile race and it sounded like a good thing to do. To tell you the truth I wasn't expecting much. A race is a race right? And bikes going around an oval didn't sound all that thrilling. I was wrong. I saw Jay Springsteen ride the mile and I have never witnessed such action and such precision riding in my life. The stands were such that you could see every pass and drive and the sound was incredible as they came down the straight. If you get a chance to witness this type of racing in person do. You will not regret it.

I have only been to one dirt track race and that was The Sacramento Mile in 1988 when a young Scott Parker won the #1 plate for HD.

No to mention that MV Augusta is Italian isn't it? I always assumed it was from the pronunciation.

I used to like them. The Fat Bob with the twin head lights seemed pretty retro.
But the more I tried to get them to fit me, the more they didn't "fit" me.
One day I was looking at the HDs and saw somebody riding and said, "That's not me!"
Since that day, I couldn't picture myself on a HD.
It's funny the twin head lights got me looking at the 2008 street triple, which pushed me to the 5-6 gen VFR, which I've always oogled from back in the day.
One thing I learned is how to pick one up after dropping her. I guess a must for the HOG.

I don't want to experience that, but it'll work on any bike I presume.

    Cheers,

    Bill

Yep. unless Count Agusta has been made Shogun and Agostini gave up his Rissoto for Sushi. HD had a piece of the action for awhile much like when they marketed Aeromacchis . Another tongue twister. MV's came in all sizes and shapes from 125 two strokes to 850 four banger streebikes. The current models are a little small for bigger dudes.

The pesos come or used to come from MV having a Bell Helicopter franchise.

Personally, HD has no appeal to me ... that said, we are all riding on 2-wheels because we love it, so we're all the same in that respect and I'm OK with that. :)

Ride what makes you happy. I won't judge.
