Anybody else as anal as I am? When I fill gas the luggage key hits the tank. So I bought some 1/4" ID tygon tubing to cover it. If you want some let me know. I have any extra 9 feet. LOL :cool-new:

Kind of. I don't like scratches either, but I bought me a "pull apart" key chain ring, one for the ignition key, one for the luggage key and problem solved.

Yeah I have my ignition/alarm fob on one and other keys (chain, topbox etc on another. That way I can warm the bike up and mess around with my luggage and chain whilst it's doing so.

I keep my luggage key in my pocket with a spare under the seat just in case. Cant stand keys bouncing around scratching things up front.

And that's part of why I'm glad I have the factory bags on my 1200, only one key :)

Good ingenuity though, low-tech solution to a simple problem.

On the VFR I'm extra careful about that sort of thing, yeah she's worn in places and it definitely shows but I think she still looks good for her age.

Great now I'm talking about my VFR like she's a cougar.

But on the little CBR250R I just can't care much anymore, the gas tank doesn't get hit but the damn upper fork bridge is already scratched and peeling like hell. Guess Honda cheaped out big time on the coating of it.

Just kinda noticed, you appear to have both your luggage keys on the same ring. So if you loose that ring?

I have two rings with both keys on each ring. On longer trips, I carry one ring in my pocket. If I loose one ring, I have a complete set to fall back on.

I keep all my keys on a lanyard around my neck inside my jacket.
It has a snap open clasp on it so if it gets caught it wont hurt me as well as a clip to fasten keys etc on to. My ignition key is clipped onto this lanyard so when I unclip it, it is on its own, there is nothing attached to it to flop around. On long rides I give a spare set of keys to another guy in the group so if I lose mine, he has spares ( went to Holland to watch MotoGp, called to board the ferry, had lost the only ignition I had taken with me. Super panic, ferry port was 300 miles from home, didn't want to phone wife to ask her to drive down with spare keys, probably end in divorce !
Anxious searching of all pockets, luggage etc revealed nothing. went back to ferry port cafeteria, someone had handed my key in !!!!! Lesson learned)
Try to minimise number of keys needed, get all luggage onto the same key (changed all barrels) less keys to keep track of.

This is my spare set. I have 3 spare keys for luggage, and 1 ignition.

Yes, yes I could. PM me if you want. LOL

So for my keys being on one ring, when I fuel up I always set a glove on my tank so when the cap is open it rest on it. Also so not to scratch the top of my triple tree. ..I cut a piece of rubber tubing (hate when I see a nice bike and it's all scratched up from other keys)and squeezed it into..
Look at picture. ..so when my ignition key is inserted, my givi key slides right into the tube. Have an extra set of both in my riding pants back pocket.

The Tygon tubing fix is a great idea. I stopped at the local Harley boutique and they had exactly what I needed for $600.00

Cool idea. Like that one. The OP has a great idea too. I understand he has three luggage keys and one ignition. But I would remedy that right away and get another ignition key cut first thing. I think several here have found themselves without an ignition key due to breakage or loss and have paid some pretty good coin to remedy that situation/ I think it is only about 3 bucks or so to get a key copied but maybe a bit more to get one cut from code. I hear those cut from code are not always that great.

I have a length of surgical rubbing I have been moving from one spot to another for something like 28 years now. Bought that stuff for holding rope lead weights for fishing. It has quite a bit of elasticity so might serve the purpose.

As far as the fishing goes, I am as good at that as I am at golf. I consider myself the worlds greatest conservationist regardless to attempting the other.
