My bike was stolen and used as a getaway vehicle in a robbery. To steal it the steering lock and ignition was smashed the key wont work it

I have taken the fairings off and the clocks

I have removed the 5 wire ignition switch and will buy a replacement

    Question

Will I be able to test the engine by starting it up after fitting a new ignition without redressing the whole bike. Do I have to put the clocks back? on and the indicators, connect up the headlamps I need to know the engine wasn't destroyed or damaged, before I spend more money on it.

Can I fire it up without the ignition switch working, presumably the idiots that knicked it managed to hot wire it somehow...

    thanks

    Hi Triops

To save you the hassle of wading through a thread which the search feature on here managed to turn up in a few seconds - it seems that after a long and somewhat acrimonious thread loosely about the same question - it seems that provided everything else is suitably connected up - then the bike should start. But obviously don't forget things like the kill switch, bike in neutral...

    Hope that helps

Yes that worked fine, unfortunately petrol poured out from under tank onto floor, will check out... pipe or stuck float bowl I suspect.

Ok so why did fuel pour out from under the tank, how long ago was this bike stolen, why would the floats get stuck all of a sudden, has it been parked up for some years, was the bike crashed or has it been laid down? Things like this just don't happen because the bike was stolen. Pull the tank and give us a bit more to go on
