    HI VFR World,

I am a rookie rider. Recently picked up a Honda VFR 750F, 1995, and this is what I am using to learn . I have gone through the CBT 1 while I was in the UK a year or so back and pottered around London on what felt like a Honda XR 125L and a few scooters for about a year.

The VFR was the only affordable bike I could get my hands on locally, and I feel in love when I saw it. Anyway, the mechanics in this part don't seem to know much about it or motorcycles in general and only recently realized, after they had fleeced me for months, that the wrong battery was installed. MG9BS as opposed to YTX12-BS. Clearly I didn't know what I was doing either as that was the battery that came with the bike. Know I'm a lot more careful, and learning as quickly as I can.

The region is unforgiving and things cost dearly, parts aren't as available as you'd like them to be and importing is a terrain only the strong minded will go into, I'm not making mega-bucks so I have to be conservative else end-up as a "funny story".

Anywho, I'm here to document my bike activities as I may soon be going through some restoration and modifications so that the bike stays in good shape.

So much to talk about, so little time. Our solitary bike shop did sell to me the idea of airflow gear rather than leather, so will do some heavy deliberations over the next few days to get the safest and comfiest gear for the region.

I've had some great advice already from members, Bryan88 and OOTV. Looking to meet and grreet new guys and soak up as much wisdom from anyone offering.

I'm Belosah, and I'm here for the Ride of my Life.

    Pictures coming soon.

    Hi Belosah

    Welcome to the MadHouse:welcome:

If you take your time to get used to the bike you will find the 750 is a very capable bike which can cover huge mileages as long as you keep up with oil and filter changes - if you have to save on things, then hold off spending on extras, but don't scrimp on servicing. If parts are an issue, you may need a bit of lateral thinking. Most common stuff for your VFR is still available in Europe so if you know someone who visits regularly (aircrew) you might be able to get them to bring back what you need. You are right about the battery - the 9BS would be fine for my Street Triple but will not last for long with your VFR especially if the heat means the fan is being used for long periods during most rides.

If the bike is new to you and the local motorbike dealerships - then it is probably worth spending time to browse through posts in the 4th Gen section of the forum, as it should reveal most of the common problems (electrical) which these bikes can suffer from, and allow you to spot potential problems before they become too costly.

    Take care

Welcome again! Good to see your intro post here and with a pic too, you're well on your way of fitting right in. Make yourself at home and feel free to post more pics as you see fit, especially of your riding area. We don't get to see much of Africa. Good luck with your new (to you) ride and keep us up to date on any adventures.

    Cheers

Apparently I have a distant relative from Nigeria who was a wealthy businessman and he was tragically killed in an accident and he left behind millions of dollars. I don't know anything about him but I can forward you the email I received which explains all the details. Would you be able to help me move the money to my U.S. bank account?

Will post pics in the coming weeks. Want to get the right battery for my bike which wont arrive for a few weeks. In the meantime. Different powerbikes around. Will upload pics of them. Will stick to hondas to try and keep inline with the sites mantra.

My recently fired mechanic said the same thing. Engine is superb but electricals are in need of love. New dashboard, probably a new brainbox and lights needed to. Lots of wires too.

I dont know pilots but do have family travelling constantly. Things to think about today. Thanks.

On the other hand im interested in getting parts. Seems like you sold a 3rd gen VFR. I would appreciate that sort of biz ratyer lost funds in Nigeria which I don't think I'd ever find. Let me know if you consider that. Cheers.

The great thing about VFRs is that if you work hard, you can ride with anyone riding on any bike. You just have to work hard - maybe harder then them. Truth.
