I am finding on my ride that 6th is almost useless unless you are really flying or droning down the hwy. I have caught myself running in 5th without noticing it. I would like to drop a tooth in the front a get a more usefull 6th and adding some low end punch. Digging around - ronayers.com - I have found the stocker is a 17 tooth and a 6th gen is a 16 tooth and might be a drop in. The counter shafts of the 5th and 6th are a tic different part number but just could be an updated revision level. 5th -- 23220-MBG-000 vs. 6th -- 23220-MCW-D00. --> Anybody pull this off? I think it would be a worthwhile 50 bucks. Would be an easy job and keep the stocker chain. MD
you can probably get a 16 tooth from sumofallparts.net for less than $50. I got my 520 conversion with a +2 on the rear, then later got a -1 for the front. The front was like $20 bucks I think, but I didn't have it on there long as the +2 in the back and -1 up front made the revs to high at 65 - 70 for my liking. Every one is dif tho.
Boy does that sum it up! I actually like the stock gearing. I like the fact that 6th acts like a true overdrive gear. Every time I think about changing the gearing on any bike the subsequent "required" purchase of a speedo healer makes me change my mind! :tsk: I HATE having the speedo off even though from the factory it's not accurate.
