Hey guys, still new to this bike. I have only started it a handful of times. A few of them have had oil smoke come out at start-up. Is this common for these bikes? Could the valve seals be going out at 7300 miles (doubtful)? Are these bikes picky about what position they want to rest in? I did a search on the forum and didn't see anything come up.

    Thanks! :topsy_turvy:

What color is the smoke? White smoke is fairly normal until the engine is up to temp. If you are seeing bluish smoke you might be burning oil while grayish colored smay be a sign of running rich. Does the bike has a power commander installed or is it stock setup? Have you checked the spark plugs for discoloration / carbon buildup? Have you inspected the air filter? Is the oil level correct?

I need to do all of these. Definitely an oil color though.

By white smoke, do you mean the normal "steam" coming out when it is warming up?

I've yet to hear about valve stem seals going out on a VFR.

The only way you are going to find out is to get out there and put a few miles on it, my guess is exhaust condensation but until you get it up to temp out on the road you can't tell and if there is a problem a few more miles isn't going to cause more problems unless it isn't pumping oil around

Yeah I'd suspect exhaust condensation. Happens over here in the UK too! ;)
