So I might pick up a 1999 viffer on craigslist but I have to decide if I'm willing to part with my evil black rifle (that hasn't been fired in 3 years) Basically looking to trade about $1600 in guns/reloading equipment for a bike with a speedometer that isn't working. From my searching it looks like it could be an easy repair. I've been lusting after a 5th gen for a few years now and have been minus a bike since my CB700SC turned itself into a 3 cylinder. decisions, decisions....
I once thought about trading my guns, but decided I like them too much. So supposed it depends on your attachment to them. Just curious - $1,600 (roughly) straight up trade? What can you tell us about the 5th Gen (other than its awesomeness) so that maybe we cna help you decided if its a good deal. Mileage? Running? Tires? Chain/Sprockets good? Any aftermarket stuff? Does seller know about the dreaded regulator/rectifier and if its been upgraded?
That's one of the reasons that I'm on here. I'll have to ask about the tires, they look like they have some good tread in the pictures. It is running with 35k miles. It doesn't look like there are any aftermarket items on it. I'll have to check out the chain as well. It's a straight up trade for 3 guns and some reloading equipment. Just emailed him a few questions, so we will see. I'm really not all that attached to the guns. I'll keep most of the ones I use and might sell an extra guitar to maybe fund a replacement AR15
so it needs a new front tire soon, chain and sprockets have 3000 miles on them and he has oiled the chain every 500 miles. The R/R is still the original one so that might be something to be replaced as well. Only aftermarket item is passenger foot pegs
Just mount the AR to the VFR during the Zombie Apocalypse! One of each side and have your pillion carry as well.
I'll still have my 12 gauge, 9mm, .22 henry rifle, and either a .38sp or a .22 pistol (depending on which one of those he picks) I'll have to build myself a new AR eventually
Just did some math and I might have to pull one gun or some of the reloading equipment off of the table!
black rifles are easy to find. VFR's are not. If you want another AR check www.slickguns.com plenty of deals there
Problem solved! http://chivethethrottle.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/user-gatling-gun-motorcycle-920-9.jpg
^nice rat bike! You would have to don your cammo uniform to pilot it though. :loco: Post pictures of the new bike... cheers
What we have here is not only Honda based but a true dual purpose bike. The twin 40mm Gatlings will make short work or hamburger out of most zombies and with silver bullets loaded, it's a really cool vampire killer. The only mod that I would add is maybe one rear facing Gatling dummy just to sort of inform tailgaiters that they are at risk.. I agree, one must dress for success. What I have never figured oot is why some dudes who hunt wear cammo. Pretty easy to be mistaken for Bambi in the woods IMO.
I thought silver bullets killed werewolves..... Damn you Hollywood for muddying the waters where conventional methods for killing mythical creatures are concerned!
well, I don't think the VFR is going to happen, but I think I'll take a look at an 84 CB700SC today. Supposedly it just needs the carbs cleaned but I'll give it a good look over. He wants $600 for it.
I knew there had to be a catch at that price. 5th Gen VFRs around here are all advertised for more than $3K. Don't know what they actually bring, but usually $3,500 and up is the starting point. You usually get what you pay for. However, selling off some of your stock is a good way to get cash for a decent bike when it appears. The amount you mentioned, $1,600, could get you a pretty decent vintage bike that has been well-cared for and sorted out. It should run well and shift through the gears just fine and look decent to boot at that price. You should always expect to have to replace tires, fluids, probably sprockets and chain on any used bike and any old bike you buy you should expect to give it a thorough going over to be sure it is safe. Do have a look at the brakes and change the fluid. Your life depends on it. As you can see in my profile, I like vintage bikes. You can find a good early 1980's Suzuki GS in your price range. However, if you hold out a while longer and collect a bit more cash, you may be able to find a really good 4th Gen VFR for under $2,500. At least, this is what I am seeing in my searches. Let us know what you decide to do.
I might pick up an 01 GSF600S for $1250. 20k miles, minor rash on the left side (these fairings are cheap to replace). new tires, new battery, runs fine, clean title. I just about have enough of my stuff sold to have that much cash.
