So after a forgetting to turn off my heated warmers a few times and having some douchebag turn them on while I was away from the bike, I have decided to wire them to only be able to be on when the key is in the on position.
Would anyone know what wire, preferably close to the battery, that i could tap into for such a signal? I can wire the rest of it no problem, just need to know what wire to tap.

    Thanks a million!

After falling for the same trick I fitted a relay and ran the trigger wire for the relay from the power wire to the brake switch. Power wire from the battery directly to the relay and put a fuse in this wire, mount the relay somewhere around the battery area. This way ignition on , relay on, I also fitted an isolation switch so that over summer I could turn the relay off

Did you mean brake light switch? If so can you tell me what color it is? I know those are always on but there's one for when the brake is applied and the other is I'm assuming constant

Sorry no idea of the colour but go to the rear brake light switch and with the ignition on with a test light see which wire has power in it, this is the wire you need to connect into where ever it is easiest to get to, trace the wire back up to find the best spot. Best way to join wires is solder and heatshrink tube for a permanent fix

Just remember this brake wire is just the trigger wire for the relay, don't try running the power for the heated grips through this wire, don't want to cook the loom, you need a power supply from the battery to the relay to power them, relay is only an electric switch

Another good wire to tap in to that is fairly close might be the license plate light.

Only good to pick up the tail light wire if the bike runs with the lights on all the time, this is why the brake light wire is best, ignition on means there is power to the brake switch

Hey Norm. Main reason for mentioning the license plate light as a possible power point for the relay is that Canadian spec bikes the headlights, running lights and license plate lights are always on. I do fully agree with your suggestion though.

hey guys, just wanted to thank those who commented. ended up tapping the brown brake light wire on the left side of the bike just as it comes out from the frame. a little solder, a little shrink wrap and we have... 20141109_121902 2.jpg

the signal is from the brown wire on the white clip in the right hand portion of the image in case anyone wants to do the same
