Hi there, name's Bob from Scotland. Only just got my licence last month, and my first bike is a 2001 VFR800 Fi with 32k on the clock. Liked the look of them for years, and was chuffed to be able to find one in my small price range when I got the money together for a bike.

Planning on a few cosmetic tweaks already. The red decals are coming off, and I've bought grab handles to replace the Givi rack, just need to get the bolts to complete the job. Also one of the previous owners has put a carbon-fibre wrap on parts of the bike which I don't really like but can live with for a bit at least.

Already been scouring the forums as a couple of wee niggles have come up in the 2 weeks I've owned the bike and this place was recommended on BCF for VFR help and knowledge.

The nice thing about your purchase is that the VFR is not your typical beginner bike, but tame enough to allow a beginner to grow into it, which saves you money in the long run. Congratulations on the 5th Gen and welcome to the forum.

Cheers guys. I live in Motherwell, not far from Glasgow. The plan is to use the bike for commuting as much as possible over the winter, as the wife works weekends just now kinda limiting any chance to go out on meaningful runs. But it's already given me a taste of cold fingers, idiots in flash cars and white-van men, as well as plenty of filtering.

Also got my first couple of niggles already - the battery went dead just after I bought it (the guy I bought it from was cool tho, paid for a new one), the bolt holding the exhaust in place wiggled it way off on Friday, and I have a flickering FI light already. But after using this forum and a few others I have an idea on the problem there, just need time and to borrow some equipment to sort it.
