Love my 07 VFR800 but....

I love my VFR800 but..... The handlebar position causes my hands to ache. 63 years old and the onset of arthritis I guess. Is there a handle bar available to bring them a lot further back? Or should I be looking at different model? If you suggest a different model please do not mention a V Twin. If you want a Harley you should get a Harley, warts and all. Pic in my avatar is my 86 VFR750, which has bars that are a little further back.

 

I am 70 and I had same problem with my '03, upgraded to Heli-bars with Vibranator dampers, and foam grips. Much better.

 

How much further back do those bars come?

1 1/4" higher and 1 1/2" back is not going to do it. I have a 77 Kawasaki 1000 LTD that I ride most because of the upright riding position. I just bought a 2011 BMW R1200R because of the riding position - selling my R100RS because of the riding position.

If Heli-bars don't work for you look at http://www.convertibars.com, they are similar to Heli-bars except they have a greater range of adjustability. However, by changing the height and rearward positioning of the bars you more than likely will need to change out your clutch, brake and throttle lines. From what I recall, the Honda ST-1100/1300 throttle cables will work and give you ~3 more inches in length. The clutch and brake lines you can get custom made or look into Galfer, HEL, Goodridge for options.
