Not to trash or blame these tires per se, just to see if others have had any big pucker moments on our bikes on these skins in the wet.

I bought this bike in June and the PO had a near new rear Metzler M3 and a worn Michelin PP3 up front. I thought I'd start with matching, safe tires and was pleased to see I could get a front M3 from Dennis Kirk for cheap (sometimes not a great sign with tires...) Anyway, they've been okay - not what I would call super confidence inspiring but okay - up until today when I was doing some half speed intensity cornering on the wet and...well I saved it but let's just say I'm not going to be pushing these on wet roads again.

    Anybody else?

Had the same happen to me a few times on Dunlop Q2s.

The Q2s were great tires on warm roads and twisties but diabolical in that they stepped out several times on me in cold wet conditions. Michelins Road 3 tires are the best I've had when the road is cold and slippery but my current Michelin PP3s are also pretty good for Street / occasional track day tires.

How old are the M3's? We just bought a 2002 with PR2's on it. The tread looked like there is lots left. My wife rode it home (300kms) and commented on how easy it was to break loose the rear. I took it for a spin when we got home, same results, wheel spin. The temps here are cool (10-15C), I checked the build date for the tires (4108).Being six years old they have hardened up enough to be unsafe!

Good point. I'll check the dates tomorrow. I did buy the front new a couple of months ago but who knows how long either of these tires sat in a warehouse before they wound up on the bike.
I haven't noticed wheel spin even at WOT off the line, but that dance I did leaned over in the wet is not something I want to try again.

M3's are very outdated tyres, that weren't that good in the wet to start with.
Go to the Metzeler site and you can do tyre comparisons.
M5's and now M7's are out.
I think even the Z8's are much better all around.
