Recently purchased and 86 VFR 700f2 in great shape! I have owned many sport bikes over the past 15 years, but have been primarily into dual sport bikes over the past 2-3 years. I owned an 05 VFR 4-5 years ago and it was a great bike and I have always been a fan of the VFR. I picked the bike up from a guy who had owned it for about 10 years and it's very clean inside and out. The paint is not original, as I would prefer the original white and blue, but it is Honda red and looks good. The only aftermarket parts are a tinted windscreen and Kerker 4-1 exhaust. The bike has 27K miles and no corrosion or rust and sounds fantastic. I know the suspension needs to be freshened up and it will need tires in the near future, but other than that I have no plans on doing any mods to it. Any advice from owners of this model regarding tire choices or anything else would be appreciated?

Hello and welcome to the madness boss! Glad to have you! You're new viffer looks a beaut!

Off the top of my head, members toecutter, and squirrelman are the resident expects on the vintage viffers. You might want to drop them a line if you do not get the information that you require.

Nice looking bike! What does the VIN stamp say as far as model year? I only ask because it looks to have the '87 and up gauge cluster and your clutch cover is black instead of the gold color that came on the '86.

That exhaust is a thing of beauty by the way.

On the stamp it has 1986 and 2/86 as production date. The dash and engine cover may have been replaced, that would be interesting to know.

Studying further, you seem to have a later model (or maybe a different market) upper cowl too, mine doesn't have molded turn signal/running lights like yours. I do like the way the newer decal looks on the tail fairing, clean! As far as tires go, you may want to do a wheel swap (or even a fork swap for that matter) so that you can run radial tires as opposed to the bias-ply junk that's available to you now. If you're already thinking about suspension upgrades, you might as well just go full-Monty.

That's interesting, it does appear that the upper cowl is off a new model. Bike runs great, but handles like a wet sponge. Probably a good thing though as my days of full tilt boogie are coming to an end.

I think I had a set of those on an FZR 600 at one time. Are you running the stock size on the back, or did you go a little wider?
