How to drain fluid from left fork? '84-700

The right fork has a drain bolt but on the left side with the TRAC I don't see a drain bolt. I have the Honda service manual but it doesn't tell how to drain the oil without disassembling the fork.

Is there a way to drain the left fork without removing it from the bike and removing the top bolt? I want to drain and refill both forks with the correct amount to be sure they have correct amount.

The bottom fork bolt is leaking on the left side. I need to check that before I ride again in-case that bolt is loose! If it's already tight and I end up having to replace that little sealing washer, can the bolt be removed and replaced with the fork on the bike? Trying to avoid a disassemble if possible.

Forks are still one of the things I haven't messed with much on a bike. Other than take off and put on, never opened a set up yet.

 

There is a drain bolt on the Track cover that you remove to drain.

 

Thanks Grey! I looked all over that area and did not see that bolt. I had to lay down on the ground to see it. Its the bolt on the rear, not the pan head screw on the bottom.

I looked in the service manual again and sure enough, no mention of it. You can see the bolt head in the illustrations but it doesn't say what it is. Strange, it mentions it for the right side fork.

About that bottom bolt, can I remove it without taking the fork all the way apart? Or will something move inside there when that bolt is removed. Hopefully I can tighten it up and it will stop leaking, but I'm not sure.

 

Anyone know about the bottom bolt? I'm kinda waiting to take the tire off and do this job until I know if I can remove the bolt or not without completely disassembling the fork. Service manual has nothing to say about it. Strange there isn't even a section on how to change the fluid, just a section on disassembling the forks and the amount of fluid to add after.

 

Yes you should be able to get bottom bolt out. It has the spring pressure on it to keep it from turning....most of the time. If it does stick then using a small air gun works great to remove. Replace by hand not air gun.

 

Yup, the bottom bolt was loose and took 1/2 turn to get it to proper torque. No idea why it was so loose. I'll have to go for a ride and check for leaking, but hopefully that got it.
