Honda finally figured out that they had a good thing with the VFR800 and is resurrecting it, mostly unchanged (radiator in front instead of on the side and smooth out the VTEC transition).

    They're selling these at $12K+.

How do you think this will impact our 2008 and earlier VFR800s? Will the reaffirmation of the VFR's marketability improve its resale value or will the prospect of new VFR800s make ours less valuable?

All bikes lose a percentage of value from the time they roll of the showroom floor & a certain percent every year after that. From what I've learned after 46 years & 20 bikes. It makes fark all difference. Everyone thinks that their bike is worth more than it probably is & those that would want to buy/trade it think that it's value is less than it probably should be. Think about what happened to those that got a new 1200 at full whack & Honda ended up selling them (here) for $10 grand less, a real sting in the tail. If you like your bike & you love riding it, resale means Sweet FA.

Personally I doubt the introduction of the new 2014 model it is likely to have any discernible impact on the used motorbike market price for a 5+ year old bike.

Unlike the North American Market, in most of the rest of the world Honda continued to sell the Vtec 800's after the 1200 was introduced, so we never had a break in the run of used 800 prices, with used prices trending down with age mileage and condition, overlaid by the usual seasonal variations.

In time, the price impact of the updated 2014 model seems likely to be similar to the pre/post 2006 model rework values. Almost inevitably there tends to be a short term spike in brand new bike prices with the launch of a new or updated model - as there are always some people prepared to pay a premium to own the latest model, but that tends to unwind fairly quickly, and dealers start to offer deals to shift inventory, once supply catches up with demand. Obviously if those discounts become immense then I guess there might be a few potential 2008 model buyers lured to buy the new one - but they would have to be pretty serious discounts to put a notional £10,500 plus extras bike in the same catchment area as a 6 year old bike costing around £4,500 for a bike with 20k miles and full OEM luggage.
