Hey everyone, I'm rebuilding an '86 VF500F and having trouble sourcing a front master cylinder rebuild kit. Honda and K&L both shows that the '84, '85 and '86 use the same parts. Problem is K&L's kit doesn't fit - the piston it too wide and too short. There were some running changes made to the '86 such as the carb size was reduced to 30mm. Does anyone know if the master cylinder was changed in '86? If so, does anyone know where I can get a rebuild kit for the '86? Thanks!!

Partzilla is where I usually order OEM parts from. They show the rebuild kit for the front master cylinder as being available.

Thanks for been there done that....

Thanks for the prompt reply! There are dozens of places to buy the front brake master cylinder kit. I can choose the Honda OEM kit or the K&L. Problem is the K&L 32-1100 kit for the '84, '85 and '86 does not fit so I'm trying to find out if the '86 has a different master cylinder that was a running change made by Honda. The other possibility is that somewhere along the line my bike acquired a master cylinder from another bike. That seems unlikely judging by the OEM look and weathering of my master cylinder that matches the clutch master cylinder.

All depends on if you are trying to do an original rebuild or just wanting to get a working bike. I have a similar problem with my CB750 it was fitted with a new master cylinder/lever assembly from another bike before I bought it, I think it is a Kawasaki one, it is fine at the moment but if I ever need a kit I would have no idea
