    84 vf-700f 54 original miles

Ok everyone, been gone for a while (2 years)from the forum. Late last night, at about 2330 hours on 9/20/2014, the now 54 mile from new 700 Interceptor rolled off the center stand for the first time now COMPLETELY done. About 2 years work and well over 1000 hours innit but, as exepcted, it looks brand new. It now has 54 ORIGINAL FROM NEW miles on it, yes 54 miles !!! and I photoed each stage of the rebuild. Even photoed each part after it was installed and photoed manyfactureres stamps, markings, etc. that I won't see again....I ain't taking this thing apart again !!. I have a ton of photos so I'll start posting them a bit at a time. Here's a few to start. Thanks for all the great conversations we had back then fellow forum members....had a lot of doubters and questionable comments from some of the forum members back then in 2012, but now the proof is in the photos. A 1984 HONDA VF-700F INTERCEPTOR .....and yes I have certified true scans of the prior titles showing the MSO and ONE other owner that sold it to me with only 28 miles. I have really learned a lot form the fellow members...even the ones that never believed the bike was real. Thanks to everyone. vf700-6 011.jpg vf700-6 018.jpg vf700-6 022.jpg vf700-6 023.jpg vf700-6 026.jpg vf700-6 052.jpg

Looks really good man! Probably the newest '84 VF700 there is. So what are you going to do with it now? I bet a Honda dealer would like to have it on their showroom floor, not for sale, just for looks. That would be pretty cool.

BTW....have you ever used the corrosion X rust remover? My '84 VF700 is in very good condition, it 'was' the cleanest one I've seen until now. But it has rust on the bolt heads and some of the metal bits here and there. I live on the coast so its not unusual at all. I was looking at the corrosion X as a way to remove the rust and leave the surrounding surfaces unaffected. Their site says its safe on paint, plastic, rubber....but not safe on non-ferrous metals, so have to be careful on the aluminum parts.

I was looking back at the 'before' pics and noticed that the tire info sticker on the chain guard was lifted in the middle, my sticker is EXACTLY like yours. I guess whoever stuck those on there did something wrong.

What did you do to fix it? I assume you fixed it? Can't see it in any of the 'after' pics.

I like that you took all those pics while dissembling, great reference for wire routing and stuff like that. Thanks for taking and posting those! I'm going to check mine against yours to be sure everything is in factory location. Maybe strange to get that hung up on but to me that's a big deal.

    VF700F future and metal question

The bike is going into my own museum with 4 other bikes I have. I also have a 2007 red, white and blue VFR800 Anniversary model that pretty much matches this one in my museum with ZERO miles on it. I bought it new in the crate, had it built and rolled right into my den as new. Never started or even had the battery hooked up. 1000% NEW as it was in the crate. I guess if I had the right offer I'd consider selling it but not sure as I have well over 1200 hours into the build and almost 2 years. A true labor of love. I had the same 1984 BLUE VF700F in college.

On the corrosion X, no I haven't used it but I have used Naval Jelly with great results..just gotta watch that stuff [naval] as it can go too far if left on too long. I would guess the corrosion X is probably better. To clean my aluminum I just polished it hour after hour...VERY softly so as not to gain a bright "shine" with Never Dull polish wadding. Since I wanted this bike to be as close to stock new as possible I did almost all my metal work by hand as opposed to using a buffing wheel. I did make one (1) change from stock. I have the stock aluminum fork brace so I took a new one I bought off ebay and had it, along with the exhaust pipes done in Black Powdercoated Chrome. I know it's not original but the stock black chrome pipes were pitted pretty much from just "time" and as we all know...you can't polish black chrome at all. I actually like it FAR better than the "paler" black chrome stock pipes and the plain aluminum stock fork brace.

Two choices you have here. DON'T use a heat gun for this as it gets too hot. Now on to the 2 choices to fix this and never have to pull the sticker. Take a strong blow dryer and heat the sticker up. Start in the center of the "hump or bubble" and using a normal decal spreader, flatten or spread it out just like laying a decal. Option #2. using a toothpick or the eyelet end of a needle , put a drop of crazy glue or bath silicone on it and spread underneath the bubble. Press down and hold until it sticks. Don't use the crazy glue if you can't be exact as you know it will leave a mark forever. Use rubber cement, contact cement or the clear silicone caulk for applications you need to just rub the excess off when done. I'll post more pics tonight of the build later on.
Glad to help out guys. My 1982 HONDA CB 450 T2 with 452 ORIGINAL MILES is the next restoration project I'm starting in about a month from now.
As for all the pics, I have the full Honda factory shop manual but I really took all the pics so people could see each step as I have no intention of taking this bike apart again. This also proves it was actually done as a lot of sellers claim a lot of things they never did. If you read the entire history of this post you'll see I got quite a hard time from a number of members of this forum that simply stated I was making it up about having this bike at only 28 original miles despite the fact I have scans of the prior title showing Ohio as the state, and "MSO" as the prior title at ZERO miles. If I ever go to sell the bike, any collector will most definitely want this all verified.

Looks fantastic. I knew you would deliver a killer resto. Everything looks factory new. How many can really say that. Something tells me that will be some prize 50 years from now when all but a few examples of newer gens are at the bottom of a metal pile. Way to go.

Thanks my friend...sorry it took so long. Now it's on tomy next project. I have an almost mint 1982 Honda CB-450 T2 in Pliades Silver with only 1400 original miles and I am putting that into museum condition when done as well. Wrong forum for that bike but I'll post that progress here too as I'm sure fellow bikers, like me, love to see ANY Honda brought ALL THE WAY back to "better than crate" new.

PLEASE post your pics as you go along too !..We'd all love to see it come together. That's why i took like a million photos as I tiore it down and rebuilt it. So I would know where ebry line, wire, sticker, bolt, etc. went as the factory intended it. my VF700 is now in my den with the other bikes in my collection. I'll take some pics and post them all.

Were the center and side stands painted from the factory? On my bike there is zero paint left on them if they ever were. If they were painted was it a glossy or flat black?

Looks like your exhaust collector is also painted? Was that factory?
