How about building your own? That's what I usually do.

I haven't really looked into that possibility Jamie. It needs to be part of my thought process though. I can only assume the manufacturers sell the crimping tools for the lines also?

No crimping needed - they screw together with a compression fitting. Easy cheesy.

I made a custom line when I needed to run one through the swingarm. Just measure how much you need and order which banjo's you want. I got mine from Earl's. Just search for "Earl's fittings" and shop from there. Several places have them.

Here's a shot of the short rear piece I needed. If you can screw the lid back on the toothpaste, you can put these together

Well damn, I've been buying toothpaste with the flip up caps, just because of that. haha. I will be looking into the hardware. thanks for the info. Getting ready to take a weekend trip to the Blackhawk classic show, swap and flat track races in Davenport Ia. Should be a good time with my dad. Just wish it would cool down a little bit.

I won't mention what it helps to be good at to pop the fork seals out.

Umm...no. Anyone who's pumped the fork back and forth in the slider to pop the seal knows what I mean.

I thought I'd post an update here. I took the bike to one of the biggest car/bike shows in the area a couple of weeks ago, and I'll be damned if I didn't win the metric sport class!!! The judges came through and couldnt believe the build as I explained it to them. Nice to see some judges that actually knew some specifics about it, (cam chains in particular). Was a good day. Only bad part is, none of my pics came out worth a damn. Descriptive plaque notes a "thank you" to the guys here. Thanks again for all the help guys.

Wow what a great end to your project. I have a VF1000F that I found at a garage sale about a month ago. It is in bad shape but it is complete and with only about 22000 kilometers on it. My goal is to get it restored, but that is a long ways away as it needs so much work and so many parts replaced.
    Congrtas on you accomplishments.

Thanks Martman, and congrats on your purchase. Use the hell out of this site and the knowledge of the guys on it, they helped me through some sticky spots and know just about everything about these machines. Sourcing parts can get pretty time consuming, some of them are really hard to find. Good luck with your project.

Ooooooh, "Can I say it, Can I say it"

    :worthless:

Seriously though. I have a friend in Calgary with a 1985 VF1000F and he is considering restoring it to original condition. Mechanically it is sound but he was thinking about repainting it back to original colors. If you have any pictures of the outside showing the original RWB, would you mind emailing me some. I'll PM you my address if you wouldn't mind sending me some high res photos of the bike. Thanks in advance.

    Bill

Thanks I just located another vf1000f that is complete but not running turns over but has carb an fuel pump issues. Body parts are all there and look in good shape. The guy will let it go for $800. I am considering getting it as I need body parts, fuel tank, forks and clutch cover. bad news it is a 6 hour drive away.

Zoom-zoom, was the question directed to me? I can try if so. I didn't have to paint anything, as the body was in this shape (fortunately) when I bought it. I wouldn't have made this venture if it wasn't.
Martman, If it has parts that you are looking for it might be worth a shot, see what he'll take. Fuel pump issue may be the relay as many others have attested to here. They are available. Carbs, if you want them beautiful and running perfect Billy Carr is THE MAN in my opinion. I know there are a couple others, but he totally transformed mine. DO NOT take them off the plenum unless you know what you are doing.
*START A THREAD WITH PICS. We all love looking at pics, especially of 1kf's. Good luck with the build.
I for one will be watching for it.

Sorry bikerinneb, I should have been more specific. It was your bike I would like some photos of if possible. I have sent you a PM with an email address. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Been a little while again, as it was too cold this winter to get anything done, and I've been out of town for a couple of months working. Got Jamies' shock installed and the fork fluid and seals changed, gonna run the rack today after catching a valve adjuster fiasco (one came off) and get it back together. One GREAT part of the weekend though, as I am closer to completing the stable...I just bought a Ducati 851!!! I've been waiting to buy one for almost 25 years, now I just have to get it home. I am a happy man.

time I guess for an update, The bike still has a ticking coming from #4 valvetrain, we have adjusted the valves 4 times this season and the valves on that cylinder are always off. The other 3 cylinders are staying put just fine. I am just about to give up on it. The only thing we can come up with is that the camshaft cap is allowing the cam to move and constantly giving us different clearances. I set the valves again today using the DD method, turned it over 3 different times and checked the clearance each time, everything looked good. Put it back together, fire it up and it's clattering more than before. Running out of ideas here. Any suggestions? I am really considering just cutting my losses and running.

Not the cap, that is almost certainly the rocker arm. Remember: the dreaded cam issue is not the cams at all - it is the rockers. If you pull that cam I'm confident you will find a damaged rocker.

    Sorry!
