Have the valves adjusted, looks like a new rear tire is in order, then ride, ride, ride.

Congrats. Get a quick tune up, rear tire (maybe front too?) and understand why we love the bikes!

Ride the crap outta it; the 4g's love that.

    It's missing a frame slider...

    Rev,
good catch on the frame slider! Won't affect his riding, but he will need to sure to always go down on the left side only. :)

Two issues I had with my first 4th gen (94) with about the same mileage was the r/r going out (do a search) and the starter clutch eventually fading. Overall the bike is pretty much bullet proof, just don't drop it. Get that frame slider PDQ. Also, the chain looks like it could use some attention. Has it been repainted? I can't see tank decals which would be under the factory clearcoat.

I've got a 96 now with only 12k miles but I'll be adding a voltmeter to it to keep an eye on the r/r (it has the new finned model).

well the guy that i got the bike from says that it has new tires, chain, sproket, r/r, and battery. he also told me that the paint is only 1 1/2 years old due to a drop in the drive way. you can see the evidence of that on the foot pegs. he said that he had both sliders on the bike and that one of them got stolen. but if you guys think that rear tire needs to be replaced ill do it. im not real familiar with motorcycle stuff. but i am a car mechanic so im not completely stupid when it comes to this kind of stuff. so any help and advice that i can get is much apreciated.

I don't suppose you know the manufacturer of the slider kit? I'd like to get one and this is the first 4g I've seen with sliders on it.

They look like they'll serve you a little while yet, when they get worn and if you like corners you may like to try Michelin Pilot Powers or maybe the just released Pilot Road 2's which have been getting great reviews with excellent grip & wear.

I highly recommend new tires. It's a good idea to have maximum traction available while you're learning a new bike. I have a pair of Continental Road Attacks on mine, they're great. Not that expensive either at $270 for the pair.

The bike looks clean, especially in all the little nooks/crannies under the subframe and around the swingarm pivot. Cleaner than my '97 that only has 8200 miles on it.

Did it come with the passenger grab rails and rear cowl?
