A good way to set it, is to hook a meter up to the battery and adjust it just above where the charger starts working. Usually no higher than 1400rpm.

I believe the book calls for 1100 to 1200, but many here have found being a tick higher just seems better - smoother idle, keeps the voltage a bit higher, etc. 1800 seems too high. I think if you are over 1200 and less than 1500, you should be good.

Why did the dealer set it so high? Who knows. Maybe it was an oversight, maybe he was a fucking moron.

It has to be warmed up to be adjusted. It may have been played with by a customer after the fact. Doesn't really matter, as it is an easy fix.

Weird, I like my idle lower...like 1k-1.1k. It sounds like a cammed V8.

Smoothness and voltage are of no concern. I don't sit in traffic usually.

When I got the bike it was idling at approx 1500. Always had the feeling it was stuck in the cold start mode.
Set it back to 1000 - 1100. Running fine since then. Never stalled because of too low idle.
