I was thinking I would keep my sport tourer more sport, and not have the center stand.
But then I ordered the Pyramid - Hugger PY-07110B, and the first step was to remove the rear tire. So then I start looking into lifts, and they are ~$175, and then I started thinking about the week long trips I do, often to remote places in Utah, Montana, etc, and I decided maybe I should be more smart and less cool, so I ordered:

Genuine Honda Centerstand - Honda VFR1200 (2010-2012) $209.95 free shipping

I see in the instructions posted on line that Honda recommends a spring tool. I am betting people here have installed them without no fancy new tools.

If you did, and can give me some advice on how you did it, please post.

    thanks

I've heard of bending the spring until you can put a nickel between the coils. You bend the spring back and forth adding nickels as you go until it's long enough to reach. I cannot attest to how well it works, but it sure sounds good.

The center stand is an easy install- the most you might need is some tape to position one of the washers in place, when you slide the long bolt up into place. Just a normal pair of heavy duty needle nose pliers are enough to slide the spring over the holder. I also installed the Pyramid Hugger, and getting the center stand on first is the way to go. The instructions that come with it are quite sufficiently detailed.

Also, putting the bike on the center stand is quite easy. I have a few pics I took sort of before and after, but it's such a non-issue I didn't worry about putting pics together for the forum I'm a moderator on.

If you PM me with your email, I can send you a PDF created from another site with the installation. But I really doubt you need it! :smug:

Centerstand was very easy. If you can change oil on your bike you can put on the stand. Got mine for about $190.

Ok, thanks for the replies. I do have that PDF already too. The nickels idea is cool, even if I don't need it for this job, its a good basic idea for other spring installs.

I actually used this method when I replaced the spring on my center stand this year and it worked like a hot damn. Got the spring on and then put the bike up on the center stand and all the change fell right out. Cleaned up the change and off I went. LOL.

a brake spring tool (brake spring pliers) are about $8.99 at Autozone and well worth it..........you can buy more expensive ones, and even a cheaper one (Autozone has the "brake spring tool" for a dollar less, but the pliers are more useful).
