    Hey VFR World,

I am going to take a trip in about a month, and I want to get a magnetic tank bag for maps and stuff. Anyone have any reccomendations? I hear that some of them have a metal frame so that you can put your weight on it when tucking under the windscreen - are those good?

    Any suggestions would be helpful.

I'm interested in a tank bag as well. But, I have some concerns about the magnetic mounts. I know that magnets can erase hard drives and other data storage stuff such as memory cards for cameras and USB storage devices. Has anyone had any trouble with this? If so please let me know. I have seen several that I like. But, I don't tend to travel a whole lot I just want something to store a few small items such as cell phone digital camera and that type of thing.

I sort of like this one....... http://www.jpcycles.com/productgroup.aspx?GID=0E206338-D38C-441B-A4FB-9BB0AF053B0B&brand=nelsonrigg

Just purchased a tank bag that mounts (bolts) on your gas cap from www.luggagelocker.com/tank-locker.htm . Should be here any day. I'll post some pics when installed.
I believe they have a bag for laptops as well - same set-up.

I got a small Cortech tank bag that came with the bike. I use it everyday going to work. It holds my gym cloths and a clear shield no problem. It's expandable and has a clear map section on top. I've never had a problem with the magnetics and I've had a digital camera and MP3 player on the bottom of the bag.

Long behold I get home and my tank bag has arrived. It took no more than 12 minutes to mount and take some pics. It has a clear top to put a map for viewing, expandable to fit 2 small soccer balls with no problem, and does not touch my tank. Although it could have came with some washers for the bolts they supplied me with but for now it should be good. I'll be keeping an eye on it and add some weight to it for testing.

Hey, that looks nice. What about its rigidity if I wanted to lay my chest on it on the highway?

    Nice

Hey, let us know how that works out after you have taken it on a couple trips. It looks nice. Does it go off and on easily? Does it have a handle on the top or somewhere to make it easy to carry?

I like the looks of that Joe Rocket Manta, RVFR, but it doesn't look like it has a window for maps. True?

my tank bag.jpg Hey guys. I bought my tank bag from the local Cycle Gear. It's made by cargo basics. It has a pocket on top with a clear plastic for viewing maps etc... It also has a zipper that can be opened to expand to fit a full faced helmet with ease. It's held on my magnets and I'm am not interested in finding out if the magnets will ruin my debit cards or anything else. I always keep those things in the map pocket as to keep them as far away from the magnets as possible. It is very usefull and has paid for itself at least a dozen times already.

    Bought this one it's:

Two Two Two bags in one!!!!!!! Yes 2 separate bags together. Staying on the bike has not been an issue at all.
My wallet has gone in there and my Mobile Windows phone and no issue. Been in the side pockets for few hours and no data loss.

Pssssst: Dont tell anyone but I asked him about shipping on two and he offered me to buy one, shipped for $50. They were selling (over a month ago) for over $50 and even $60 with shipping and I see they are going for less now. It is a NICE bag and very well made!

wolf mountain. absolutely the best. that bag has been through hell, literally. over 80K miles, 80+ mph wreck, 30 mph wreck, 4 different motorcycles, 4 trips to laguna seca, a tour(two years) in Japan, heat, cold- you name it. even been through a couple washing machine cycles. the best part it was gven to me for free. it looks like its been through hell but it stays where I put it. I guess i could get a new one but why mess with something that isn't broken?

Have a look at ebay, you never know when a bargain will show up.

That's how I got my Bagster set up, only cost me AUD$93.00. Brand new they are about AUD$450.00.

I have used a few brands, but found Marsee has the best design and construction IMHO. Very well made.

As far as leaning on it at speed, just make sure you have soft items on top; spare gloves, neck gaitor, sweatshirt, etc. Makes it nice and comfy.

Search for "MotoPak GT-35" on eBay.

This has 3 layers that can be used individually, or together. 2 of the 3 can be used as backpacks or tank bags. The quality is very good for the price, and you can't beat the flexibility of the different ways the different parts can be combined.

    eclipse tank bag

i have an eclipse and it is great. easily connects/ disconnects with buckles and stores a ton of stuff.

comes with map case and raincover, and it isn't too pricey (130 with shipping).

    http://www.eclipseluggage.com/luggage/200.html

Check it out! if you want to make it into a backpack go grab some compression straps at your local wilderness outfitter (REI, EMS, etc)

The little Joe Rocket Manta is fine for a few necessities- looking inside mine at the moment, I'm packing a turtlefur- quite handy this time of year, spare earplugs, a little Sony camera, Treo phone, couple of spare cigars, an mp3 player, a set of Shure SE530's (great on the highway), a sunglass case, Surefire LED tactical light, and one of my H&K P7M8's in an Alessi holster with two spare magazines.

The mass of those magnets does make it a dense little bag, even empty. But it sticks like a ... sticky thing. Hasn't moved yet.

I should point out that I do have it attached to a hard point on the bike with a lanyard whenever I'm carrying a weapon in the thing- just in case inertia rears its ugly head, I don't want the case and Viffer going separate ways.
