Does anyone have a good answer here...

This is my first bike ('01 vfr800fi) - and purchased last year with 7k on it... now with 16k - I clearly ride every day, and love it. But the shock is already blown. Seemingly rare from what I've been told - but none the less... I'm having trouble finding a solution for under 1,000. I really didn't have a problem with the stock shock... and found one (Finally on ebay), but it's an '02. will it work?

Does anyone have an 01 showa they're willing to part with?

    used stock showa shock

I really have no idea... I'm interested, and have seen a few around for $100 or less... at 10k, I'd be comfortable at 70 - 100.

I'm really angry that mine has completely disintegrated at 13k (when it started leaking fluid.) But I just don't have the cash to put an ohlins on... it was supposed to be reliable, no hassle bike for awhile... not so much, thus far. I had a 20yr veteran rider/teacher find and broker this bike for me, and now am repacing suspension AND steering bearing after 7k miles. uh....

I guess I'm going to wait until mine is shagged - it feels fine right now. Why not contact Race Tech - they'll replace your stock shock seals, revalve and replace the spring for $379, maybe they'd just replace the seals for around a hundred.
