    So I was trying to remove my carburetor of my '86 VFR700F and it just would not come off the boots. Long story short I broke a piece of the carburetor but I have no idea if it is important. It looks to me like it was a mounting point and the whole that came out of it was caped but I am no expert. I have attached multiple view to hopefully show someone enough to help me determine what, if anything, I need to do. I figure my options are to;

    1) Do nothing
    2) Epoxy the piece back on
    3) Epoxy the whole closed without the piece
    4) Replace the part

    I just want to resolve this correctly so if I need to replace the part I will replace the part but from what I have read I think replacing this part is a big pain.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    See the attached photos and let me know if there is a different angle you need.

    It's been a few years since I have had my 750F carbs off, but that looks like a hole that was drilled during manufacturing, then plugged. Since broken piece is solid, I would JB-Weld piece back on, but make sure JB-Weld seals hole as well in case it comes off again. Clean surfaces thoroughly.

    Agree, must be welded. Either weld the piece back on, or just weld over the hole, if left open the carb will not work properly.

    3) Epoxy the whole closed without the piece - will work too :)

    You will be okay to just epoxy over the opening. No need to try to attach the stub, just close the opening to keep air out. i would take out the little brass cap also so there is nothing loose to open up the hole. Don't block off the large tube from the tiny port hole drilled thru the side, just the external opening exposed at the fracture needs to be covered.

    Thanks to everyone confirming that all I need to do is seal the exposed area.

    I may have a spare carb if needed. Got a box of individual carbs so the probability is good. Standard cost, shipping and 18 cold beers.
