Hi All, As a new member I just want to say hi and thanks for this great resource for all things VFR. I've just registered and am new to the VFR world so therefore looking for a little advice. I'm UK based and looking for a 90-93 VFR 750. I was hoping for a little advice as for what to look out for when buying one of these beauties as this will be my first Honda. I don't have a massive budget and therefore would like to find a nice machine in average/good condition that I can use on a daily basis and hopefully a little touring. Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for when viewing these bikes, any common faults or issues? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Tom.
There is an entire section of this site on those particular year models. The powers that be (be what?) have decided to sub-divide the model years into bigger chunks called generations the usage being a minor form of the noun. A classic example might be Harvard beets vs Yale beets vs the beet generation. OMG, I just realized you guys on the other side call then beetroots.. A Canadian term I believe. Biggest problem will be age and electrical with regulator/rectifiers and stators being numero uno. There is probability that on that run of bikes this may have been addressed and attended to already.
Hi from across the pond. Welcome! There is also an "Introduction" forum where new guys/girls are encouraged to post a "Hello, this is who I am" kind of message. I just bought a 1990. My charging system seems fine at the moment. Maybe someday it will take a dump. I will watch for it - maybe install a voltmeter to monitor it. The 3 yellow wire fix has not been done yet, but the connector plug/contacts/wires are still in new condition. The time WILL come upgrade to a mosfet R/R. A charging system problem is not a worry. Worst case is replacing the stator and R/R - easy jobs. Make sure the plastic is in good condition. The tabs at the top of the mid-fairing panels seem to be easy to break off due to the tilting and rotating motion required to remove the panels. The tabs can be repaired (even replaced with make-your-own using a Plastex kit). I have to make a few tabs for mine. These were only made for 4 years so replacement panels are not found every day on eBay. Hondas are VERY high quality bikes. With good maintenance, they can last forever. And being a member here gives you unlimited access to a huge knowledge base for help and advice. Cheers, Glenn
