    So in deciding what i want to do with this puppy I"ll start out with the fact that this motorcycle is in a better home now. The oil cooler, headlight and speedo were held on by some type of wire, obviously laid down and what not. So in lies my question to you kids out here of how have other people mounted their oil coolers when not dealing with stock environment.

    Not familiar with '86, but I bought a Lockart aftermarket oil cooler for my '83 back in '84. Is your stock or after market?

    I mounted my cooler under the headlight (cut small relief out of fairing), braided lines go down to adapter between oil filter and engine.

    The oil cooler looks like my 6th generation, so I say from your OP that you are missing the sub-frame that holds headlight, oil cooler, horn and provides fairing attachment points. On the 6th gens, there is a center stay comes off steering tube/frame that supports cross bar oil cooler attaches to. On my 1st gen, is like a small cage.

    Fairing Stay.jpg

    You are lacking Item #14 in the fische picture, also known as the fairing stay, Honda part # 64500-ML7-670, Honda code # 2407393.
    NLA, you will have to get it used at a bone yard, feebay or a generous benefactor.

    Depends on what you've got and what your plans are;

    If you plan on running an OEM fairing then you'll, or course, need to follow Dukiedok's advice (or fab up something sturdy enough for the job).

    If you plan on running with no fairing (or a small aftermarket nose type) then you should be able to fab up some simple rubber dampened mounts (you could possibly adapt a pair of aftermarket fork tube type turn signal mounts).
