I would be more concerned about scoring due to lack of oil. Are bearings in good shape?

the bearing journals look fine, no scoring other than the pitting everything feels fairly smooth

I guess if bearing clearances are in spec, I wouldn't worry. It has made this far in 30 years, how much are you going to ride it and how hard?

not planning to ride hard, im not a speed freak...

here is some more pics of the pistons, and engine condition..something tells me this bike had a hard life and I should forget about it.

the front cylinders appear to be cracking? I removed some of the paint to tget a better look of the casting.

the piston skirts have vertical marks on them and matching marks on the cylinder walls.

inside the crank case it seems like pieces at the bottom of the cylinder wall have broken, there is also some bulges of metal that appear to be fused in random places? not sure if it normal;manufactured like that or some other problem.

    thanks

have a look guys, any advice or input greatly appreciated

That crank is a nice paper weight. Not sure about the castings, can't really tell a whole lot.

Doesn't look too bad for a 30 year old engine, but then again, was it running before? How are the heads, valves and cams?. All depends on how long you want it to last, and your budget. If you want some to ride occasionally, hone cylinders, get new rings, have some one polish crank, lightly polish piston skirts, clean everything up and run till it starts making bad noises. If your were building a high performance engine that you were going push to the limit all the time, then I would scrap it. Be surprised how much abuse these engines can take.

Cut your losses and get an '86. Closing in on 50k on mine still not consuming a drop of oil.

That thing is in really bad shape (probably due, of course, to coolant and/or water contaminated oil). Like Allyance says; you might get away with having the crank polished. But then again, this isn't a relatively low rpm single or twin... So, I'd be hesitant in sinking much time and money into it.

However, the real question is whether or not the crank main and piston pin journals are out of round...
