Hi everyone, my name is Duston. (HI DUSTON!) I am addicted to two wheels. I am a low voltage electrician, volunteer firefighter and father of five. I know, you're asking, "How do you find time to ride?". Riding is my therapy. lol. I rode dirt bikes when I was younger. I got on my first road bike about ten years ago and fell in love with the open road. I had a friend who owned two Kawasaki Concourse 1200's and wanted someone to ride with. So I got my permit and jumped on. It was and amazing feeling being on the road, in the open air, carving up the Old Columbia River Highway. Shortly after I got my endorsement I bought a Kawasaki Vulcan 900. Great starter bike. Soon after I realized that I couldn't keep up with my Harley buddies, so I traded the Vulcan in for a 2006 Electraglide Classic. Shortly after that I began to miss the dirt, so I bought a 2007 Suzuki DR650 dual sport. I loved that I could do both dirt and street. I had the best of both worlds......and then I rode a friends GSXF650. I was amazed at the handling, acceleration and over all speed. So I started looking for the ideal street bike for me. I looked at many different brands and body styles. I had an idea of what I wanted, but couldnt find "The One". One of the guys at the fire station inspects vehicles for a living and highly recommended the VFR800. I started doing more research and loved the way it looked. So I took one for a test drive....It was love at first ride. I loved the way it felt, accelration, speed, everything. So the newest addition to the family is a 2006 VFR800. I ride year round here unless its icy or snowing and I ride as often as possible. "Life is better on two wheels."
:welcome: to the madness  Good looking bike :thumb: Kudo for posting pictures...! I am glad you ride otherwise you be busy making babies ound: Good to have you. The VFR will keep you happy for many years to come. Ride safe and ATGATT please.
Welcome to the forum. Seems every time I've riidden through Portland, it does rain. But I do believe in actuality, Chillifuggenwack gets more annual rainfall than Portfuggenland. I used to ride lots in the rain but not so much now that I am unemployed. Stick around. Who knows. We just mau meet.
Thanks everyone! Bryan88- Yeah i believe so. I got a great deal on the bike. No complaints here. Badbilly- I am pretty sure I am still waterlogged from my ride home a month or so ago when it hailed and rained so hard my socks were the only thing that was dry. In full raingear, thank god for Danner boots. Scubalong-No more babies here :2guns: shooting blanks. 34468 Randy- Right now no rain, been great riding weather. The rain festival starts soon though. CB-1- I like the ride through Fossil. Nice area.
BTW. This world is a far better place thanks to volunteers. And being a firefighter as far as I am concerned, is one of the most admirable proffessions out there. Put the two together and YOU DA MAN! And da man rides a VFR. What more could possibly be said. Thank you!
Thanks Randy, Becoming a volunteer FF was something I had wanted to do for a long time. After 9/11 it only encouraged me to want to do it more. It is something I enjoy doing. Not a career path for me, just a way to give to my community. Not always the best circumstances but there is nothing better than seeing a person walk into the fire station and give you an update after you spent a certain amount of time cutting them out of a mess of a car and load them onto a helicopter because they are in such bad shape. Or the child who wants you to sign their cast because you helped them when they fell off the swings at the park. Its those times that are the best. With all of the bad thing in the world it is great to see and focus on the good things.
Badbilly- I am pretty sure I am still waterlogged from my ride home a month or so ago when it hailed and rained so hard my socks were the only thing that was dry. In full raingear, thank god for Danner boots. Danners are great boots. What has happened is that fashion and what the fast guys are doing has the market right now. Good stuff and some have the look but are not so good when the idea is foot protection. My personal choice are Dehners out of Omaha. I have a pair of Danners too. Boots, leathers, gloves, helmets and bikes are in many cases dictated by what is hot and what is not. The really fast guys ain't dressed in off the rack anything and the other dudes like Elvis and EK weren't either. Been that wet mself more than once.. Thank God for those bigass trash bags.. A bunch of guys in my club are or were SFD. Hats off to you guys.
