I have a 84 VF700f and I just had them put on a 140/70 x 18 on the rear and the tire is really oval shaped (probably because of it's lower profile)
    not sure I like it,
    what is your guy's opinion...
    is it safe

    thanks
    Rob

I don't know about the 84 intercepter, but I do know if it is the same rear wheel size as the 86/87 vfr (3.50 x 18), then that should be the correct tire size.

I use that size on my '87 and seems to work well. Pirelli Sport Demon.

I have had a 140/70-18 rear on my ride for years. Never had any problems. And I just ordered a new rear that is the same size. Holds good, and I like the look of the slightly wider tire than stock

I think they may have changed the width of the rim in 86.

    83-85 VF's were 3.00" wide
    86 were changed to 3.5"

Might want to keep an eye out for a rim upgrade.
I'm running a VF1000F rear rim. It's 17" and 3.5" wide. Also Matches the original style rim.

I swapped it to give me a better choice of tires.

Currently running a seat of Avon Azaros.

Can't say enough good thing about them.

I just want to say that the 86-87 have a 3,5 rim, and the older vf have slimmer one. Then when buying tires there is also big diffrense betwen brands. For ex. when i buoght my -87 vfr it had a michelin macadam 50 on it in stock size (130/80) and it was 128mm wide on the rim. next was a Dunlop arrowax in stock size and it was 148mm ! wide on the rim. also the sidewall was much lower. Third tire was a Bridgestone bt17 in stock size, it was 141mm wide on the rim, and last week i mounted a stock size Pirelli Sport Demon, and its 134mm wide and about 10mm higher OD than the BS bt17. So BIG diffrens in my opinion!

So a slim 140 can be wider than a fat 130 I think. Would be intresting to know how wide which tire is mounted on a stock rim...
