    Just an update....

I got a large amount of the work done :)

I removed the fairings and raised the tank. It wasnt too difficult once i figured it all out. I basically just followed the manual.

I was surprised to find the previous owner already had a K&N filter in there, however, they left in the existing rubber gastkets which i believe were supposed to be removed as the rubber of the k&N replaces them, and oddly the K&N filter they used, while the correct one, had like 40% less filter area. Basically his filter had 40% more rubber. I was quite surprised comparing my new one with the one he had in the bike, 40% more airflow in my new one. So I replaced it with my new one, his was very clean though.

I also drained and replaced the oil. I flushed it a tiny bit too, added like half a quart with the plug in to try and flush out the crap sitting on the bottom of the oil tank. I put in the good motul synthetic ester stuff, bike seems to like it so far.

I also drained, flushed and replaced the coolant with the Engine Ice. This was a PITA!!! I tried with the cap on the radiator and it came out too slow, and did what liquids do and followed the kickstand sensor wire down to the center stand and ran all over the floor. i removed the cap and it shot all over the place and splashed all over as it rocketed out. I made do lol. I ran 1 gallon of distilled through. then sealed the system and filled it with distilled, then drained it. Then added the engine ice. so far this has made a HUGE difference in engine temps!! :) :) I went from constantly hitting 220-225F in traffic or when stopping or at a traffic light, to now i have only hit 220F once after sitting a long time in the heat. now it mostly stays around 185-195F, pretty much runs a solid 25F less than before! awesome. (I dont know if i should thank the engine ice or the flush of the old crap, probably a combo of the two)

I then installed my power commander V and autotune (with o2 sensor). This wasnt too bad once i figured out how to fish the wires and mount the stuff. The o2 sensor came out very easily, i actually had more issue removing the shield around the 02 sensor.... So far so good, i loaded a stock map and it SEEMS to make a positive difference. however i mentioned in my thread about autotune, i now get a violent activiation of VTEC. its like really noticable now, it may be that its doing much more power or it might be the pre-vtec is less power making the activation more violent and obvious. i just want to make sure i am not causing issues with this violent activiation. sometimes it really rips lol, as long as its ok i guess its a good thing! however, i liked the activation before i think, it was more smooth. before it was like (if ! is mega power, - is medium power, and . is low power) it was like .........-------!!!!!!!!!!! now its like .........!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if that makes sense lol. hopefully, hey i have been up for 28 hours, cut me some slack lol

next up is the two brothers exhaust :)

    Thanks guys!

You have to count the number of folds in the filter and measure the height of the folds in order to calculate filter area, not just look at length x width of the opening. A 5x5 opening could flow less than a 4x4 opening depending on the amount of filter surface area within the opening.

    Just FYI

I did not measure and count, but by eye the folds seemed to be the same completely except that there was just more area but i could easily be wrong.

And you could just as easily be right.

Jus remember Engine ICE will not protect you come winter. It is great stuff in the summer or for a track bike, but a system flush and new coolant may be more then enough

odd, swear when I used it years back it did not have any freeze protection. the logo and bottle look alot different too, soo maybe they have just made a better all around product. ran it on my 675 after I had to uninstall the rad fan for the Arrow system.

Yeah engine ice has propelyne glycol (same shit as in my E-cigs) instead of ethlyene. Its non toxic, smells a lot better, and supposedly provides similiar freeze protection.

I dont plan on riding the bike in the winter anyways. I dont ride below 40F. I am curious though, would just leaving water in the system over the winter in the garage cause damage? I mean, as long as you let it thaw before riding the bike in the spring i would think it would be ok???

Don't use just water, plain water causes corrosion. You need to have an additive to prevent corrosion, like coolant or the likes.

The problem with just water in the coolant system is that it will freeze, and since water expands, your water jackets will break and your engine block will crack.

Absolutely never run just water in a road bike.

Next up is replacing these really disgusting mirrors (they are starting to bother me, they are so damn thick, i dont know why) although they dont vibrate at all, so i am iffy on changing them for that reason.

Also need to find a way to mount my cell phone. After mounting a ram mount x grip to my vstrom handlebars i am having a hard time going without the phone on the vfr.

I think I am going to go with a fork stem ram ball mount and a xgrip. it works well on my vstrom and the fork stem ram ball mount seems ideal.

ok can someone recommend one of the countless sets of replacement mirrorS? I want something that looks slick and more modern. Integrated turn signals is welcome but not required.

It seems many aftermarket mirrors wont work right as they dont swivel at the base like our stock ones do.

    THanks.

Can anyone hep me identify this plug?

Its located next to the right headlight. brown and green wire. I was hoping it was 12v / gnd switched so i could use it to power a usb charger. However, when I tried to check it with a multimeter it appeared to be 0.5v with the bike off and 0v with the bike on. its possible the multimeter was wrong though as its batteries were dying.

    Thanks

Not sure - it almost looks like the test plug that you'd use to diagnose/display any FI codes. But on my 5th Gen, that was located under the seat.
