Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum and will be looking for a pretty good amount of help on a bike we just pulled out of a shed.

It's a pretty decent size project, got a rolling, engine mounted chassis, and a box of parts. a previous owner repainted the frame the the VIN is hiding behind that or if it was on a sticker like the service manual I found suggests is totally gone :( If anyone knows another hiding place for that or a way to match the engine and frame up for one would be nice too. That aside what I do know is that its a VF700F-E in color PB127A, does anyone know if that color applies to a specific year of the bike?

Unfamilliar bike aside I have a decent amount of experience getting old bikes figured out, this bike will be paired up in the garage with a 78 XS750S and a 14 FZ09. I'm looking forward to getting it road, and registration ready!

    Welcome aboard janzend!

VF700F-E indicates that it's an '84 and the PB127A Color Label indicates the "Shasta White with Candy Aleutian Blue and Candy Red" paint scheme (good 'ole RWB). And, unless I'm mistaken, their should be a small serial # stamped on the steering head.

Meanwhile, you might pull the valve covers and have a look-see at the condition of the cams. Camshaft wear problems were the Achilles Heel on these bikes... Still a very cool machine that's becoming more difficult to find these days. These early VFs pretty much started the modern "Sport Bike" class imo.

Hi, you've got your work cut out for you :courage:, I have a VF700F, stock red over white with blue striping coincidentally presently sitting in my shed . You may already be aware that the tail section shown is not the stock colors, I assume a PO painted over it too ... good luck  ...

So you have a '14 FZ9 and want to ride a 30 yo project bike ??

I'd suggest a compression test b4 investing much time or money. Maybe you'd discover why the bike was put into a shed......

The bike is for a friend of mine, he found the bike and has a couple bucks to get it going again. I know how to source parts and help, and know how these things go together

It's great having a new bike, but I also love solving garage problems with a wrench.

The frame vin is here. Not sure in the engine though. Good luck, and welcome.
