I am thinking of parting with my 1998 VFR800Fi. Bought this off the original owner last August with only 5900 miles on it (has 6700 now), all original (even tires), rear cowl is still in the original packaging. I put in a new battery, Dunlop Q3's, and an air filter. Oil/filter was changed as was the brake and clutch fluid. Also have service manual. Seat had a couple of scuffs, so I replaced with an OEM new one.

Now the question is, what do I ask for it?? Any suggestions? thanks.

that's pretty low miles and if it is spotless you might be able to get top dollar. That being said, top dollar probably will be in the 4000 range and it may take a while to find someone to go that high.

$4000 sounds about right to me (assuming no cosmetic damage)

The low miles is not really an asset. It means the bike has been sitting. Sitting is bad.

My opinion is that around $3000 would be possible. I love the VFR but I don't know that I'd pay a lot of money for a 16 year old bike that's been sitting for most of those 16 years. But that's just me.

Mechanically the bike is very very sound, nothing wrong at all. Inside of tank is spotless. If stored properly (which this one was/is), I see no issues with it's age. Thank you for the feedback folks:cool:

I got a 98 with 3600 miles fot 3000 a few weeks ago. Not mint but pretty close. Tank bright and clean inside. I have no problem with the lack of miles at all. Bike runs strong and sweet.

I'd certainly ask for $4k, and really confident you could get $3500. In my opinion, $3K would be giving it away.

Im not in the market but the low miles wouldnt scare me a bit. I recently bought a 08 with 775 miles and it was stored properly with zero issues. If a machine is stored properly there is no reason for anything to ever be wrong. Stored properly that is. If you are in no hurry to sell i would ask around 4300 and settle for no less than four. If your in more of a hurry then take whatever you can afford to lose. But if it has been stored right etc i wouldnt let someone talk you down because of the age. The 98 is a great bike.
